Ervin E. Rosenberry Jr.


CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Ervin E. Rosenberry Jr., 69, of Manorcare Health Services, and formerly of 5644 Montgomery Church Road, Greencastle, Pa., died Wednesday, Oct. 22, 2003, at the nursing home.

Born Dec. 10, 1933, in Markes, Pa., he was the son of the late Ervin and Ethel Fisher Rosenberry.

He worked as a laborer.

He served in the U.S. Army and the National Guard.

He was a Protestant.

He is survived by five sons, Brian Rosenberry of McConnellsburg, Pa., John Rosenberry of Chambersburg, David Rosenberry of Needmore, Pa., and Ervin Rosenberry III and Scott Rosenberry, both of Greencastle; three sisters, Janet Byers of Chambersburg, Romaine Buchanan of Mercersburg, Pa., and Marie Pool of Fort Loudon, Pa.; one brother, Carl Rosenberry of Wakefield, Kan.; and two grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one daughter, Susan Rosenberry.

A graveside service will be held at the convenience of the family at Stenger Hill Cemetery in Fort Loudon. The Rev. Perry D. Rose will officiate.

There will be no public viewing.

The family requests the omission of flowers.

Shelly R. Watson


LAS VEGAS - Shelly Rae Watson, 41, of Las Vegas, and formerly of Kinston, N.C., died Wednesday, Oct. 1, 2003, at St. Rose Dominican Hospital in Henderson, Nev.

Born July 5, 1962, in Chambersburg, Pa., she was the daughter of John R. Watson Jr. and the late Edith A. Schuchman Watson.

In addition to her father, she is survived by three daughters, Stephanie B. Seaman of St. John Port, Fla., Lauren N. LaFrance and Robyne M. Watson, both of Chambersburg; one son, Jonathan S. Seaman of Greenville, N.C.; and one granddaughter.

She was an organ donor.

A memorial service will be held today in Henderson.

Graveside services will be Monday at 1 p.m. at Parklawns Memorial Gardens in Chambersburg.

The family requests the omission of flowers.

David A. Frye


MAUGANSVILLE - David Arlen Frye, 45, of 13911 Blue Mountain Drive, died Wednesday, Oct. 22, 2003, at Washington County Hospital.

Born Aug. 20, 1958, in Harrisonburg, Va., he was the son of Nola Grace Propst Frye of Maugansville and the late Melvin Hessie Frye.

He was a construction worker.

He attended Emmanuel Chapel in Smithsburg.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by three sisters, Vicki Bennaka of Hagerstown, Pamela Frye of Williamsport and Penny Appleby of Little Genesee, N.Y.; one brother, Kenneth Frye of Chambersburg, Pa.; nieces; nephews; aunts; and uncles.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Sharon L. Smith.

Services will be Saturday at 9:30 a.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, East Wilson Boulevard in Hagerstown. The Rev. Jonathan D. Laye will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

The family requests the omission of flowers.

Robert E. Backofen


CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Robert E. Backofen, 85, of 835E Menno Village, and formerly of South Guilford Hills, died Wednesday, Oct. 22, 2003, at Chambersburg Hospital.

Born Oct. 2, 1918, in Brooklyn, N.Y., he was the son of the late Gustauv and Margaret Smith Backofen.

He retired from Letterkenny Army Depot in 1973. He had a total of 34 years of federal service.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

He was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church in Fayetteville, Pa.

He was a member of Charles Nitterhouse Post 1599 VFW; Burt J. Asper American Legion Post 46; N.A.R.F.E.; and Falling Spring Chapter of AARP.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Virginia Patterson Backofen; one daughter, Marilyn DeFontes of Baltimore; one brother, Emil G. Backofen of Ridge, N.Y.; and two granddaughters.

Services will be Saturday at 2:30 p.m. at Robert G. Sellers Funeral Home in Chambersburg. The Rev. Clyde DeShong will officiate. Burial will be in Parklawns Memorial Gardens in Chambersburg with military honors by Charles Nitterhouse Post 1599 VFW Honor Guard.

Visitation will be Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

Garry L. Miller


SHARPSBURG - Garry Lee Miller, 54, of 6601 Remsburg Road, died of a heart attack Wednesday, Oct. 22, 2003, at his home.

Born Sept. 26, 1949, in Washington County, he was the son of Hartle Eugene Miller of Sharpsburg and Marie Elizabeth Dick Miller of Williamsport.

He was a 1967 graduate of Williamsport High School.

He was a Christian.

He was employed by Arnold Graphics in Hagerstown for 30 years.
