An eighth-grade student at Clear Spring Middle School has been named Youth of the Month for September.

Asya Brown, the daughter of Kurtis and Kimberly Brown, was presented with a Certificate of Merit and a savings bond by Washington County Commissioners President Gregory I. Snook on Tuesday.

Asya has been on the honor roll for her entire school career, according to a written statement.

She is active in her church and has performed in Christmas plays for the past eight years.

She has been a member of the Clear Spring Destination ImagiNation team for three years and is involved in the drama club at school, according to the statement.

Asya, who has played soccer since she was 5 years old, also practices karate.

"Asya is a kind person to everyone she knows. As her counselor, it has been a pleasure to have Asya at Clear Spring Middle School," Earl Meagher wrote in a statement. "She is well liked by her teachers and classmates. She is also a very motivated student."
