FAIRPLAY - A 16-year-old burned more than a week ago in a campfire accident remained hospitalized in critical but stable condition Sunday at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center, a spokeswoman said.

Dustin W. Smith suffered third-degree burns after attempting to ignite a campfire in the 17500 block of Spielman Road on Oct. 11, a news release from the Maryland State Fire Marshal's Office said.

The release said Smith's clothes became enflamed after he poured gasoline on the fire. Nearby residents helped extinguish the flames, the release said.
