The Kratzes

William and Betty Kratz of Clear Spring celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary Saturday, Aug. 2, 2003, at a party held at the Plaza Hotel in Hagerstown. The party was hosted by their children and grandchildren and was attended by extended family and friends.

The Kratzes were married Aug. 2, 1953, at St. Mary's Church in Hagerstown.

Mrs. Kratz was employed by Washington County Public Schools Food Service Program. She retired in 1990.

Mr. Kratz is a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He retired from Pangborn Corp. in 1991.

They operate an antique business.

The Hutchinsons

Edgar and Francis "Tutti" Hutchinson of Sharpsburg celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary with family and friends at a surprise dinner party at Potomac Valley Fire Department, hosted by their family on Saturday, June 28, 2003.

The Hutchinsons were married June 22, 1963.

They have three children, Jamie Hutchinson and Tammy Lohman of Sharpsburg and Pamela Hutchinson of Hagerstown. They have five grandchildren.


The Fletchers

John Aaron and Maxine Fletcher of Hancock celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary Saturday, Aug. 2, 2003, at a luncheon at The Event Center in Berkeley Springs, W.Va. Fifty guests attended; the Fletchers' granddaughters serenaded the couple with love songs.

The Fletchers were married Aug. 7, 1953, in Cumberland, Md.

Mrs. Fletcher is a homemaker.

Mr. Fletcher is a veteran of the U.S. Army. He retired from Mack Trucks after 26 years.

They have five children, 12 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

The Wyands

Paul and Barbara Wyand of Keedysville were surprised with a 50th wedding anniversary celebration Saturday, July 12, 2003, at Four Points Sheraton in Hagerstown. The event was hosted by their daughter and her husband, Diane and Walt Ledden, and their grandson. They were joined by 75 family members and friends, including two members of their original wedding party. The event featured a video covering their 50 years together.

The Wyands were married Aug. 1, 1953, at Mount Zion United Methodist Church in Myersville, Md., by the Rev. Stephen Raby.

Mrs. Wyand is the daughter of Margaret Miller of Myersville and the late Roscoe Miller. She worked in banking for 40 years, retiring in 1996.

Mr. Wyand is the son of the late Paul and Cecelia Wyand. He had been employed at Fairchild Industries, and retired from the printing business in 1992.

They are members of Salem United Methodist Church in Keedysville.

The Karns

Michael and Barbara Karn of the Halfway area recently celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary at a dinner party at The Grille at Park Circle in Hagerstown. The event was hosted by Mr. Karn's three sisters and spouses, Helen and Preston Myers, Terrie and John Angle, and Judy and Joe Howell.

The Karns were married June 23, 1978.

Mrs. Karns is the daughter of the late Hilda Keyton and Henry Clay Miller. She is employed by M&T Bank.

Mr. Karn is the son of the late Helen Kershner Karn and Hubert Karn. He is employed by Equipment Development Co., in Frederick, Md. He also is a retired Naval Reserve senior chief petty officer and a veteran of Vietnam and Desert Storm.

They have one daughter, Tangena King, and two grandchildren.

The Fords

Edward and Winifred Ford celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary Saturday, Sept. 6, 2003, at a dinner at Hickory Bridge Farm in Orrtanna, Pa., attended by family and friends.

The Fords were married Sept. 5, 1943, at All Saints Episcopal Church in Frederick, Md., by the Rev. Henry Powers.

Mrs. Ford is the former Winifred E. Crowther, daughter of the late Edna M. Light and Edward C. Crowther Sr. She worked at Eyerly's Department Store, Newberry's and McCrory's.

Mr. Ford is the son of the late Samuel Ralph and Zeluska Palmer Ford. He is a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and the Korean War. He worked at Victor Products, Fairchild Industries, Allegheny Ballistics and, for the last 40 years, was employed by Pangborn Corp., where he still serves as a consultant.
