John P. Wolford


WINCHESTER, Va. - John P. Wolford, 61, of Commerce Street, died Wednesday, Oct. 15, 2003, at his home.

Born April 22, 1942, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Josephine Shington Wolford.

He was a graduate of North Hagerstown High School.

He was a disabled veteran, and served in the U.S. Army as a private first class from 1964 to 1966.

He was a member of Izaak Walton League.

He is survived by one brother, James L. Wolford of Winchester.

Services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Coffman Funeral Home, Hagerstown. The Rev. Lois L. Emerick will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Cemetery, Hagerstown, with graveside military honors conducted by Morris Frock American Legion Post 42.

The family will receive friends Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Jones Funeral Home, Winchester, and Monday one hour prior to services at Coffman Funeral Home.

James S. Sampson


SHARPSBURG - James Samuel Sampson, 68, formerly of Sharpsburg, died Sunday, Oct. 5, 2003.

He was born Jan. 20, 1935, in Sharpsburg.

He was a 1952 graduate of Clear Spring High School.

He was a retired IBM software engineer.

He served in the U.S. Navy as an aviator.

He is survived by two sons, William Sampson and David Sampson; one sister, Cathryn S. Smith; four brothers, Harry Sampson, Max Sampson, Marvin Sampson and Mark Sampson; and three grandchildren.

A memorial service was held Saturday, Oct. 11, in Dallas.

Louise R. Goss


CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Louise R. Goss, 81, a resident of Providence Place, and formerly of 18 Beacon Court in Chambersburg, died Thursday, Oct. 16, 2003, at Chambersburg Hospital.

Born Nov. 11, 1921, in Chambersburg, she was the daughter of the late Lloyd and Mary Beltz Rosenberry.

Her husband, John Goss, died in 1993.

She formerly was employed by Stanley Co. in Chambersburg, retiring in 1984.

She was a member of Church of the Brethren in Chambersburg, where she was a member of the Friendship Sunday School class.

She is survived by one daughter, Linda D. Mull of Chambersburg; one son, Merle F. Dentler Jr. of Chambersburg; one sister, Betty Mellott of Shippensburg, Pa.; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Services will be Monday at 2:30 p.m. at Church of the Brethren, Chambersburg. The Revs. Manny Diaz and Darlene Stouffer will officiate. Burial will be in Parklawns Memorial Gardens, Chambersburg.

The family will receive friends at Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, Chambersburg, and at the church one hour prior to services on Monday.

Thomas J. Dawson


MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Thomas Jay "Bones" Dawson, 41, of Martinsburg, died Wednesday, Oct. 15, 2003, at City Hospital.

Born Oct. 9, 1962, in Baltimore, he was the son of Mary Hopkins Dawson of Martinsburg, and the late William Dawson Sr.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by four sisters, Debbie Iden and Sandy Ryan, both of Martinsburg, Vanessa Jenkins of Virginia, and Tina Livengood of Inwood, W.Va.; one brother, William Dawson Jr. of Martinsburg; and nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was preceded in death by a nephew.

Services will be Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at Brown Funeral Home, Martinsburg. Pastor Charles Donivan will officiate. Burial will be in Rosedale Cemetery.

The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.




William R. Morris


MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - William Robert Morris, 85, of Martinsburg, died Thursday, Oct. 16, 2003, at the home of his daughter, with whom he lived.

Born Jan. 25, 1918, in Green County, Va., he was the son of the late Alfred and Vickie Morris.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Haley Jane Morris.

He was an orchard worker for 25 years at F.H. Shyrock and for 15 years at J. Douglas Miller Orchards.

He is survived by one daughter, Marjorie M. Owens of Martinsburg; two sons, Robert L. Morris of Maryland, and John A. Morris of Gerrardstown, W.Va.; 15 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, William G. Morris.

Services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at South Berkeley Funeral Chapel, Inwood, W.Va. Pastor Eric Fareh will officiate. Burial will be in Gerrardstown Presbyterian Cemetery.

The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral chapel.




Ella M. Barnhart


HAMPSTEAD, Md. - Ella Mae Barnhart, 83, of Hampstead, died Thursday, Oct. 16, 2003, at Carroll County General Hospital in Westminster, Md.

Born Feb. 25, 1920, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late William John and Bessie Lea Mellott Hutzell.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon Gale Barnhart Sr.

She was a homemaker.
