Mail Call

October 16, 2003|by

"Please no more disgusting pictures of old ladies with their tattoos and body piercings. That is the most disgusting thing I have ever seen. It's not the first thing we want to see Sunday morning when we open the paper."

"To the person who called in and said they have psoriasis and wanted to know what else would help them. Lubriderm lotion is great or Alpha Keri bath oil. If you can't afford these products, maybe you could go to a clinic and maybe they will have samples of these items."

"I am the one who originally put the bread pudding recipe in and I told you I forgot to put in the milk. Well, now someone wanted to know how much milk. If I knew how much, I would have said. You just have to add milk until it looks right. I mean, that is the best thing I can tell you. Probably a quart maybe. Just pour it in until it looks right."

"I see all the time in the paper where people are complaining, begging or whatever for various restaurants and so forth. These are businesses, they aren't something that is allotted to the city because they are wonderful. If you want a McDonald's, Bob Evans, Wal-Mart or whatever, don't call Mail Call, don't call your politicians, call the stores. Recommend it to the stores that it's a good area, or open one yourself. People don't just give out businesses. They are owned and operated by people. So call the various franchises and tell them, that's what you want."

"Life must be very boring for Charley Reese, he only knows one subject to write about, President Bush. Over and over and over and over. Give us a break."

"It's getting so Mail Call is getting as entertaining as the comics. What people we have in this town."

"To the parents who want a McDonald's in Boonsboro. It would be a good idea to have one there. You wouldn't support the Tastee Freeze you had down there. They had good food and everything there, why should you get a McDonald's?"

"Someone put in Monday's Mail Call that Dr. Morgan gets all kinds of raises and bonuses, but why doesn't the lunch aides and teachers aides get raises? The support personnel did get raises, as did the teachers and principals. So what is the big deal?"

"Whenever there is a difference of opinion with the Board of Education and Dr. Morgan, it is reported that it must be individuals that don't like change. Teachers welcome change, when it is fair, planned and it is really in the best interest of children. Del. Myers needs to apologize to those 'disgruntled employees' who try to tell him what happens when someone disagrees. I myself can't wait for election day."

"This is the answer to the question of what was the restaurant at Little Caesar's, it was called Jeff's Restaurant and Jeff's Putt Putt back in 1975 to 1980. They shut it down and tore it down and the Venice remodeled."

"In reference to the restaurant where Little Caesar's is now, it was called Colonel Jeff's Restaurant and the golf course was called Putt Putt."

"To the person who wanted to know about the trampoline place on Frederick Street. That was called Burk's Bounceland, then turned into the 7-Eleven, that is right next to what is now the AMVETS. Which started out as a sewing factory, then a donut shop, then went to the Colony Inn, which was a disco place."

"Does anyone have any idea how I get in touch with the USA Network, e-mail, address or the state where it is? Call Mail Call. I do need to get in touch with them, but don't know how to go about it."

"Can someone put a recipe in for bread pudding?"

"I live near Sharpsburg and I travel the Sharpsburg Pike daily. What a mess the state made of the new resurfacing job done between Taylor's Landing Road and Sharpsburg. The road was 10 times better than what it was before it was done. Now it feels as if you are driving on coarse sandpaper and there are already pockets and grooves in it. What a waste of taxpayers' money."

"Does anyone know when trick-or-treat is for the Marty Snook Park area and Halfway? Please respond quickly."

"When is trick-or-treat for the entire Hagerstown area? Is it Thursday, Oct. 30 or Friday, Oct. 31?"

"To the lady who called about psoriasis. I am 86 years old and I have had it since I was 4 years old. There is no use in worrying about it. I have been every place to all kinds of doctors and they said there is no cure for it. So you might as well learn to tolerate it and live with it."

"What is more important than getting a bathroom for the Pre-K children at Lincolnshire School?"
