Mail Call

October 14, 2003

Editor's note - Please be as brief as possible when calling Mail Call, The Daily Mail's reader call-in line.

Mail Call is not staffed on weekends or holidays so it is best to call Mail Call during the week. The Mail Call number is 301-791-6236.

You are welcome to leave a recorded message on any subject, but some calls will be screened out.

Here are some of the calls we have received lately:

"I have psoriasis, and I was wondering if anyone else out there knows of any other health food or vitamins that you can take to help this. My doctor gives me salves but it doesn't seem to help."

"It seems that our Board of Education is pressing the issue of trying to save money again. Frederick County is doing a study on changing the times that the children go to school. First, the high school will go, then the middle school, then elementary. To me, this is very important for the small children, considering they are sometimes waiting on buses or walking to school in the dark. Maybe they should think about the safety of the smaller children and have them go last."

"I see in the paper where the Washington County Schools face a building crisis. It says that there are seven schools that are more than 50 years old, they don't have air conditioning nor do they have sprinkler systems. I wonder what schools they are, is that public knowledge and why didn't they print that in the newspaper?"

"Tim Rowland's column on the dog issue was a masterpiece. He is the only one who had the guts to write such a viewpoint."

"I just read where Bob Evans is building another restaurant in Hagerstown. Why can't they build one in Boonsboro instead of building another one in Hagerstown? We have a lot of traffic down here and a lot of people who live here. We need a place where the kids can go. Just like the other night after the ball game. They had to go over to Myersville, McDonald's or over to Shepherdstown or they have to go into Hagers-town. Parents don't want their children riding around like that at night, just to get something to eat. It would be nice if we got something like that here in Boonsboro."

"To the person wanting to know the name of the golf course and the restaurant where Little Caesar's is now. Jeffrey's and Spanky's."

"I am calling because I just read in Thursday's paper that there is going to be another Bob Evans Restaurant. Why don't we go for an Olive Garden or something like that? This is what we need. Why don't we get something different for a change? Please think about this a little more."

"There is also an Eckerd's store in Frederick. I didn't know about the one in Waynesboro, but there is one in Frederick."

"I would like to know if anyone has the schedule for the flu shots at the Elks Club. If you do, please put it in Mail Call."

"I am calling representing the Van Lear Neighborhood in Williamsport. Our trick or treat will be held as usual on Thursday, Oct. 30, from 6 to 8 p.m. Thank you."

"I am calling about the response someone put in the paper about the new hospital. I too agree with whoever wrote this. I am an employee there too. I have two small children, one is very sick and requires a lot of blood work."

"The answer to the three questions in Mail Call. One question was where was Pappy's Pizza, it was in the Ames Shopping Center, down where Books N Things was. Second, the Putt Putt, that was just Putt Putt and the restaurant was Spanky's. Third, was the trampoline place, I don't know where that's at."

"I want to know why Dr. Morgan gets all this stuff, pay raises, bonuses and so forth. She doesn't do all of it by herself. You are talking about a whole lot of people who are helping her and don't get recognition. We are tired of it, the lunch aides, the teacher's aides, etc., why don't we get any raises. By the way, to the person who was asking about Pappy's Pizza, the first place would be at Valley Mall."

"I have a suggestion for the homeless problem in Hagerstown. They have an armory on North Potomac Street. They could create a shelter there. That would hold a lot of people in cold weather. All they would need to do is get some donations to rehab the place and get it back in service with some heat and stuff."

"The question was asked in The Daily Mail about what we think about Arnold Schwarzenegger winning the election in California. It just goes to show how many stupid people there are in California. They only voted for him because of him being an actor, not because of his experience. As far as I am concerned, they get what they deserve."

"First, the very first Pappy's Pizza was located in the Ames Shopping Center and one at Valley Mall. The name of the miniature golf was, if I remember correctly, it was called Putt and Jeff."

"To the person who wanted to know the name of the golf course, where Little Caesar's is. I think it used to be called Jeff's Putt Putt."

"In that bread pudding recipe, she forgot to put how much milk. Can you call back in and tell us how much milk."
