'Dogs, Hubs hold ground

Martinsburg and North Hagerstown remained unbeaten and kept the top two spots in The Herald-Mail Super 7 football poll this week.

The Bulldogs, the No. 1 team in the West Virginia Class AAA Associated Press poll and playoff point standings, posted another blowout victory, beating Hampshire, 55-7.

The Hubs extended their best start in school history with a 20-0 victory over Brunswick and face their toughest test of the season Friday when they play host to No. 4 Catoctin at School Stadium.

Walkersville leaped over Catoctin into the third spot with a 49-0 win over Winters Mill, while the Cougars held steady at No. 4 by beating Boonsboro, 20-6.


Frederick, which defeated Walkersville last week, fell from No. 3 to 5 after a 50-0 loss to Linganore, which is ranked second in the Maryland AP poll.

St. John's at Prospect Hall and Berkeley Springs flip-flopped in the final two positions. The Vikings beat St. James 30-0 on Saturday, while the Indians lost to W.Va. Class A power Moorefield, 45-0.

Greencastle-Antrim and Smithsburg also received votes in this week's poll.
