Walkersville man killed in crash

October 10, 2003

FREDERICK, Md. - An employee with the Frederick County Board of Education died Thursday following a single-car accident on Amber Drive at Beaver Creek Lane, according to the Frederick County Sheriff's Department.

Frank Joseph Harris Sr., 45, of Walkersville, Md., was pronounced dead at Frederick Memorial Hospital following the 10 a.m. accident, the sheriff's department said.

A Board of Education spokeswoman said Harris, who had been a grounds crew worker for the board since 1989, was working at the time of the accident.

Harris was driving a 1989 Chevrolet pickup truck east on Amber Drive when "for unknown reasons, it crossed the centerline, proceeding over the curb and onto the sidewalk," the sheriff's department said.

The car continued across Beaver Creek Lane and entered the front yard of a residence, the sheriff's department said.

The driver's side of the car then hit a tree, causing the vehicle to spin into a fence on the same property, police said. Harris did not appear to be wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident, police said.

An investigation into the accident is continuing.
