EMS answers 95 service calls

SMITHSBURG - The Smithsburg Emergency Medical Services had 95 calls for service in September.

The busiest day of the month was Sept. 19, when there were nine emergency calls, according to Capt. James Ulrich.

Of the September calls, 13 were to Frederick County, Md., and two to Franklin County, Pa. There were 20 calls in the Smithsburg town limits, 12 to Mount Aetna, four to Cascade and 17 to the Leitersburg area.

The most common calls were for vehicle accidents and medical emergencies, which accounted for 24 calls. There were nine calls for chest pains and eight for people who fell.

A total of 49 patients were taken to Washington County Hospital, with another two going to Waynesboro (Pa.) Hospital and one to Frederick (Md.) Memorial Hospital, Ulrich said.
