Board OKs pay raise for Morgan

October 08, 2003|by PEPPER BALLARD

The Washington County Board of Education on Tuesday voted 7-0 to give Schools Superintendent Elizabeth Morgan a salary increase and a bonus this year for meeting their expectations.

Morgan, who made $120,000 last year, will receive a 3 percent salary increase and a 4 percent nonrecurring performance pay for meeting 90 percent of the School Board's established criteria, said School Board President Bernadette M. Wagner. The total increase amounts to $8,400.

"The board stands united in support of Dr. Morgan," Wagner said.

School Board Member Roxanne R. Ober said the School Board compared salaries of other county superintendents in the state, and Morgan's new salary is comparable.

Wagner said Morgan's contract ends in 2006 and the School Board cannot renegotiate her contract until February of that year.
