Area roundup - Martinsburg stands in second

PREP GOLF



WHEELING, W.Va. - Martinsburg stood in second place after the first round of the West Virginia state golf tournament with a total of 244, 10 strokes behind John Marshall in the Class AAA field on Monday.

Sam Harrison led Martinsburg with a 3-over par 79 on the 6,600 yard Speidel Golf Club course at Oglebay Park. Teammate Sam Harrison chipped in with an 82.

Trent Schambach and Brian O'Donnell led John Marshall with 76 and 77 respectively heading into today's final 18 holes.




PREP VOLLEYBALL



Waynesboro 3 Greencastle 1


GREENCASTLE. Pa. - Waynesboro took three of four sets from Greencastle, 25-21, 21-25, 25-13 and 25-12.

Jessica Ritchey had 10 hits and 19 digs and Jessica Statler had 10 hits and 14 digs for Greencastle. Lisa Gentile added 13 points.

JV: Greencastle, 2-0.

WARFORDSBURG, Pa. - The Indians won in three straight games, 25-8, 25-7, 25-6, to improve to 11-2. Kaylie Mellott led the win with 16 service points and nine kills, Katie Merica added 12 service points and Loni Layton had 10 service points and six kills.

Northern 1, Ja. Buchanan 0


MERCERSBURG, Pa - Adam Heebner had 12 saves in goal for James Buchanan (7-8, 4-7) as it fell just short of Northern. Andy Mattrick scored Northern's goal.




GIRLS SOCCER



Williamsport 3 Clear Spring 0


Williamsport defeated the homestanding Blazers. Meggan McGill, Morggan McGill and Jessica Clingan each scored goals for Williamsport. Catie Vancour made five stops for Williamsport. Amy Mills had 12 saves for Clear Spring.

JV: Williamsport, 4-0.




COLLEGE GOLF



Shepherd golfers fifth


DAVIS, W.Va. - Shepherd College was in fifth place in the West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Central Region golf tournament after the first 18 holes with a 304 team total, 14 strokes behind Concord's 290. The final round is scheduled for today.

David Bradshaw shot an even-par 72 over the 6,984-yard Canann Valley Golf Course for a fifth-place tie in the medalist race, four shots behind Concord's David Lane.




COLLEGE VOLLEYBALL



HCC 3, Howard 0


HCC swept Howard with scores of 30-18, 30-16, 30-11. Keri Jackson led HCC with 15 kills, 15 digs and four aces. Shay Storms added 39 assists and Megan Miller had 18 digs with nine kills for HCC (14-2, 7-0 Region XX).
