Jeffrey A. Bowers Sr.


KEEDYSVILLE - Jeffrey Allen Bowers Sr., 39, of 3524 Trego Mountain Road, died Friday, Oct. 3, 2003, at his home.

Born Aug. 3, 1964, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Grover Vincent and Mary Alice Bowers.

He attended Boonsboro High School.

He was employed by JJ Crewe and Son in Buckeystown, Md., in industrial refrigeration.

He was a member of Chestnut Grove Bible Church.

He is survived by his wife, Penny Kay Bowers; two sons, Jeffrey A. Bowers Jr. of Keedysville and Evan L. Bowers of Boonsboro; three sisters, Beverly A. Riley of Toledo, Ohio, Vikki J. Eckstine of Myersville, Md., and Tamala L. Hall of Gresham, S.C.; a brother, Tim S. Bowers of Mercersburg, Pa.; six nieces and nephews; two great-nieces; and a great-nephew.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Robert L. Bowers; a nephew; and a great-nephew.

Services will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Chestnut Grove Bible Church in Keedysville. The Rev. Bruce Gephart will officiate. Burial will be in Samples Manor Cemetery near Sharpsburg.

The family will receive friends Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Bast Funeral Home in Boonsboro.

Verna W. Ward


BURKITTSVILLE, Md. - Verna Wilma Ward, 87, of Burkittsville, died Saturday, Oct. 4, 2003, at Frederick Memorial Hospital in Frederick, Md.

Born Nov. 12, 1915, in Elkins, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Homer and Ida Pritt Isner.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Wilson Ward Sr.

She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Petersville, Md.

She was a member of Ladies Auxiliary of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 1136 and Women of the Moose Chapter 660, both of Brunswick, Md.

She is survived by a daughter, Mistie A. Harrison of Knoxville, Md.; a son, Larry Ward of Burkittsville; five grandchildren, Cheryl L. Hyde, Carroll Copen, Jon C. Hyde Jr., Zachary Ward and Amy Leopold; six great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by two sisters and a brother.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday at 11 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Petersville. Deacon Larry Teixeira will be celebrant. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in Petersville.

The family will receive friends Monday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at John T. Williams Funeral Home in Brunswick, Md., which will open at 9 a.m.




Erik A. Martin


EAST NASSAU, N.Y. - Erik Allister Martin, infant son of Jeffrey A. and Jessica Ruth Martin of East Nassau, died Saturday, Sept. 27, 2003, at Albany Medical Center in Albany, N.Y.

He was born Sept. 22, 2003 at Samaritan Hospital in Troy, N.Y.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by grandparents Ronald Martin of Pensacola, Fla., Patricia D. Martin of East Nassau and Dennis B. and Tara B. Ruth of Corvallis, Ore.; great-grandparents Marion Desmond of Phoenix, C. Allen and Louise E. Ruth of Hagerstown and Gouverneur C. and Shirley R. Backus of Seaside, Ore.; and two aunts.

A graveside service was held at Mount Hebron Cemetery in Montclair, N.J. The Rev. David Gable officiated.

Lillian J. Kunkle


WILLIAMSPORT - Lillian Josephine Walden Kunkle, 86, formerly of Hagerstown, died Thursday, Oct. 2, 2003, at Williamsport Nursing Village.

Born June 18, 1917, in Dott, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Harry Reynolds and Ethel Lee Rash Walden.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack V. Kunkle Sr., in 2002.

She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Hagerstown.

She worked for more than 20 years at Interwoven Knitting Mill in Hagerstown.

She is survived by a son, Jack V. Kunkle Jr. of Hagerstown; a daughter, Patricia A. Moats of Hagerstown; a sister, Alice J. Crouse of Frederick, Md.; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son, Douglas Kunkle; three sisters, Ruth C. Ridenour, M. Ann Mathna, and Irene B. Sobotor; and a brother, William Walden.

Services will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Rest Haven Funeral Chapel in Hagerstown. The Rev. Timothy Lester will officiate. Burial will follow in Rest Haven Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Tuesday from noon to 1 p.m. at the funeral chapel.

Robert A. Nicholas


KEARNEYSVILLE, W.Va. - Robert Ames Nicholas, 30, of Kearneysville, died Friday, Oct. 3, 2003.

Born May 3, 1973, in Baltimore, he was the son of Rex and Anita Louise Wamsley Nicholas of Kearneysville.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by a brother, Anthony Nicholas of Kearneysville, and two grandmothers, Josie Wamsley of Martinsburg and Leona Nicholas of Glen Burnie, Md.

Services will be Monday at 1 p.m. at South Berkeley Chapel Funeral Home in Inwood, W.Va. The Revs. Thomas L. Tennis Sr. and William McCalister will officiate.
