Allison-Antrim Museum is working on G-A pictorial

September 12, 2003

GREENCASTLE, Pa. - Allison-Antrim Museum is working with Arcadia, a New Hampshire-based publishing company, to print a pictorial history book of Greencastle-Antrim.

Between 180 and 240 photographs can be included in the book, said Bonnie Shockey, director of the museum, 365 S. Ridge Ave.

The museum's collection includes about 250 dry glass slide

negatives that were taken by G. Fred Ziegler and his father, George Frederick Ziegler, but only a small number of them are identifiable or usable, Shockey said.

Old postcards such as those printed by Carl's Book Store and Morgenthal are now able to be used because of computer scanners. "The museum's collection of photographs continues to grow, but we need the help of the community at large to contribute to a project of this size," Shockey said in a news release.

"Think about old family scrapbooks as sources that could possibly contain pictures of Greencastle and Antrim Township or the townspeople," Shockey said.

Chapter titles have not yet been chosen, but could include business and industry, historical or special event photos, landmarks, hostelries, homes, well-known townspeople and churches, Shockey said.

Arcadia has published a number of pictorial history books for other towns in the area.

Shockey said original photographs will be handled with great care and will be returned to the owners.

If you have photographs to loan, call Bonnie Shockey at 717-597-9325.
