Flooding causes road closings in Berkeley Co.


MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Portions of several roads in Berkeley County were closed Wednesday night due to flooding, emergency dispatchers said.

Portions of Williamsport Pike, Ridge Road and Dry Run Road were closed, dispatchers said.

No other major flooding problems were reported, dispatchers said.




Doors damaged, cake stolen in Pa. burglary


CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Pennsylvania State Police are investigating a daylight residential burglary Tuesday in which the only thing reported stolen was a cake.

Police said the break-in occurred between 8:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. at the home of a woman in the 1400 block of Lincoln Way East. The woman returned home to find the locks on all three entrances to her home damaged and the doors ajar, police said.

The cake was worth about $10, police said. The damage to the doors was estimated at about $30.




Falling tree strikes moving vehicle


NEW MARKET, Md. - A woman driving north on Md. 75 near Lime Plant Road was not seriously injured when a falling tree struck her car just after 5 p.m. Tuesday, Maryland State Police in Frederick said.

The tree fell onto the northbound lane of Md. 75, the top limbs of which hit the 2002 Chevrolet Silverado driven by Heather Christine Montgomery, 26, of Frederick, Md. She only received small scratches.

Power lines were knocked down in the accident, and traffic was slowed when the northbound lane was closed for about two hours.
