M. Lavetta H. Fraley


SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. - M. Lavetta Hawn Fraley, 88, of Shepherdstown died Friday, Aug. 29, 2003, at Canterbury of Shepherdstown.

Born Aug. 22, 1915, in Jefferson County, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late George L. and Cora V. Hawn Fraley.

She attended Shepherd College and was a 1938 graduate of West Virginia University, receiving a bachelor of science degree in home economics.

She retired in 1976 after 37 years as a home economist at Potomac Edison Co.

She was a member of New Street United Methodist Church in Shepherdstown, where she was a member of the church board and former secretary of the trustees.

She was a member of the American Association of University Women, the Jefferson County Historical Society; Mecklenburg Home Makers Extension Club, the American Rose Society and the Cumberland Valley Rose Society, among other organizations.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Lacie Staubs.

Services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at New Street United Methodist Church in Shepherdstown. The Rev. Dee-Ann Dixon will officiate. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery in Shepherdstown.

The family will receive friends Monday at 10 a.m. at the church.

Annette M. Walker


JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Annette Marie Hackett Walker, 52, of Jacksonville and formerly of Hagerstown, died Thursday, Aug. 28, 2003, of colon cancer.

Born March 1, 1951, in Dorchester, Mass., she was the daughter of Barbara Hackett.

She was a graduate of Hyde Park High School. She graduated in 1973 from Boston City Hospital School of Nursing, becoming a registered nurse.

She worked as a registered nurse at Washington County Hospital in the intensive care unit.

She was a member of Duval Station Baptist Church in Oceanway, Fla.

She is survived by her husband, Billy Walker, whom she married Jan. 4, 1975; two daughters, Kate Wandzilak and Tasha; a son, Andrew Walker; three sisters, Patricia Dennehy, Jeanne Wilson and Wendy Hosmer; a brother, Mike Hackett; three grandsons; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Daniel Hackett.

Services will be Monday at 10 a.m. at Duval Station Baptist Church in Oceanway. The Rev. Steve McCoy will officiate.

Burial will be Monday at 3 p.m. at New Home Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery in Offerman, Ga.

The family will receive friends Sunday from 3 to 5 p.m. at Corey-Kerlin Funeral Home in Jacksonville.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Community Hospice of N.E. Florida, 4266 Sunbeam Road, Jacksonville, FL 32257, or to a charity of one's choice.




Edgar W. McFadden


MERCERSBURG, Pa. - Edgar W. McFadden, 88, of 13672 Buchanan Trail West, Mercersburg, died Thursday, Aug. 28, 2003, at Chambersburg Hospital.

Born Sept. 27, 1914, in Little Cove, Pa., he was the son of the late Webb M. and Nellie Keefer McFadden.

He was a member of Upton Full Gospel Church.

He played music with various groups over the years as a violin player. He was an original member of The Old Fashion Gospel Singers of Mercersburg.

He is survived by his wife, Mary C. Keefer McFadden, whom he married Aug. 21, 1939; three daughters, Mildred E. Reed and Dorothy M. "Dottie" Gehr, both of Mercersburg, and Evelyn I. Zeigler of Greencastle, Pa.; a son, Robert E. McFadden of Mercersburg; two sisters, Pauline Johnson of Greencastle and Geraldine Perkins of Cumberland, Md.; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Helen McFadden, and three brothers, Russell McFadden, Earl McFadden and Luther Merle McFadden.

Services will be today at 2 p.m. at Lininger-Fries Funeral Home Inc. The Revs. Jonathon D. Laye and Gary A. Keefer will officiate. Burial will be in Stone Church Cemetery of Little Cove.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to services on Saturday.

Glenn H. Stouffer


CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Glenn H. Stouffer, 79, of 2978 Warm Spring Road, died Thursday, Aug. 28, 2003, at Chambersburg Hospital.

Born May 25, 1924, in Antrim Township, Franklin County, Pa., he was the son of the late J. Hoke and C. Elizabeth Brake Stouffer.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II serving in the Pacific Theater of Operations.

He attended Greencastle schools.

He was employed by Letterkenny Army Depot in Chambersburg for more than 30 years.

He was a member of Solomon's United Church of Christ near Chambersburg, where he served on the church's Consistory board and helped with construction of the current church building.

He was a member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees, the St. Thomas American Legion and the Norland AARP Chapter of Chambersburg, and a life member of the NRA.
