Playmakers to stage musical review

August 29, 2003

Potomac Playmakers' 2003-04 season - its 78th - will open Friday, Nov. 14, with "The World Goes 'Round, The Songs of Kander & Ebb."

The musical review features tunes penned by John Kander and Fred Ebb, who wrote "Cabaret" and "Chicago." Songs include "All That Jazz" and "Mr. Cellophane" from "Chicago," "Cabaret" and "Money, Money" from "Cabaret" and the theme from "New York, New York."

The local nonprofit, volunteer group has presented plays on the small stage of the Women's Club auditorium since 1926.

"The World Goes 'Round" is directed by Ruth Ridenour, music department chairwoman and drama coach at Williamsport High School. Ridenour has been involved with Playmakers since she was in the chorus of "Kiss Me Kate" in 1979.

As usual, the season includes a musical, a comedy and a farce, says Playmakers President Dick Hershey.
