The Daleys

Mr. and Mrs. Charles H. Daley of Hagerstown observed their 60th wedding anniversary Saturday, June 21, 2003, at a surprise celebration at Pleasant Hill United Brethren in Christ Church fellowship building in Coseytown, Pa. The event was hosted by their daughter and her husband, Peggy and Donald Kershner, two grandsons and two great-grandchildren. More than 85 people attended the event. A three-tiered cake accented with heart-shaped cakes was featured and served after a buffet dinner.

The Daleys were married June 26, 1943, in Hagerstown, by the Rev. Simon Kenny, now deceased.

The Smiths

Mr. and Mrs. Harry "Red" E. Smith Jr. of Keedysville celebrated their 54th wedding anniversary Wednesday, Aug. 6, 2003.

The Smiths were married Aug. 6, 1949, at the Hagerstown Church of God parsonage by the Rev. H.C. Gonso.

Mrs. Smith is the former Lola Virginia Ponton, daughter of the late Harry and Susie Ponton. She retired from Hagerstown Rubber Co., in 1963, after 20 years of service and is employed by Washington County Board of Education, where she has worked for the past 23 years.


Mr. Smith was discharged from the U.S. Army in 1946. He worked at Western Maryland Railroad for several years, then was employed by Security Cement Co., in Hagerstown for 32 years, retiring in 1987 from the Lone Star Cement Co.

They have two children, three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

The Weavers

Robert E. and Edith Weaver celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary Thursday, July 31, 2003.

The Weavers have lived at Homewood Retirement Community for more than 21 years.

They are members of Grace United Methodist Church.

The Weavers have three children, Robert E. Weaver Jr., Laura Geyer and Lorriane Hawes. They have three grandchildren.
