Tri-County Boroughs Assoc. awards scholarship

WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Emily Morningstar, 19, daughter of Harry and Jill Morningstar, was presented with a $1,000 scholarship check by Waynesboro Mayor Louis Barlup Jr. Wednesday on behalf of the Tri-County Boroughs Association.

Morningstar, who attends Westminster College in New Wilmington, Pa., competed with students in about 15 counties to win the scholarship.

Private pool voted a public nuisance

WAYNESBORO, Pa. - The borough Council Wednesday voted to designate a private swimming pool at 143 Fairview Ave., as a public nuisance at the request of Douglas Pyle, building inspector for the borough.

Pyle said repeated attempts to locate the owner of the property, believed to be living in Georgia, have been unsuccessful.

The house itself is scheduled for a sheriff's sale, he said.

Meanwhile, the pool is full of water and Pyle said he is concerned that it might become a breeding ground for mosquitoes, which can spread West Nile virus.

He said borough crews have swept the water off the pool's cover in the past.

"We'd like to punch a hole in the bottom of the pool and let the water drain out," Pyle said.
