Bruce W. Bayer


INWOOD, W.Va. - Bruce William Bayer, 80, of Inwood, died Friday, Aug. 15, 2003, at City Hospital in Martinsburg, W.Va.

Born Oct. 20, 1922, in Jones Spring, W.Va., he was the son of the late Edward Lee and Angie Mae Parsons Bayer.

He is survived by two sisters, Frances M. Bayer and Mary E. Bayer, both of Inwood; two brothers, Conrad E. Bayer of Inwood and Paul J. Bayer of Martinsburg; and a niece.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Sarah L. Cline, and a brother, Albert Bayer.

Graveside services will be Monday at 10 a.m. at Central Chapel Cemetery in Ganotown, W.Va. The Rev. Irvin T. Shultz will officiate.

The family will receive friends today from 3 to 5 p.m. at South Berkeley Funeral Chapel in Inwood.




Catherine E. Eckenrode


BOONSBORO - Catherine E. "Cathy" Eckenrode, 45, of Boonsboro, died Friday, Aug. 15, 2003, in Silver Spring, Md.

She was the daughter of William Thomas Jr. and Patricia C. Nutter Eckenrode of Boonsboro.

She retired from Giant Foods in Silver Spring.

She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Hagerstown.

In addition to her parents, she is survived by a daughter, Karen Eckenrode of Boonsboro; a son, Mark Arnold of Silver Spring; a sister, Teri Moyer of Frederick, Md.; and five brothers, Joe Eckenrode and Patrick Eckenrode, both of Ormond Beach, Fla., Lenny Eckenrode of Boonsboro, Tom Eckenrode of Deltona, Fla., and Chris Eckenrode of Sharpsburg.

A graveside service will be held Tuesday at 11:30 a.m. at The Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Silver Spring. Monsignor William O'Donnell will officiate.

Arrangements are by Ricketts Funeral Home, Myersville, Md.




Charles L. Glass


CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Charles L. "Charlie" Glass, 58, of Chambersburg, died Friday, Aug. 15, 2003, at Chambersburg Hospital.

Born March 22, 1945, in Chambersburg, he was the son of Carrie H. Yeager Glass of Chambersburg and the late Moses L. Glass.

He had worked for Delta airlines.

He served in the U.S. Army and in the Army Reserves.

He was a Protestant.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by a daughter, Angie Glass of Philadelphia; a son, Eric Glass of Chambersburg; two sisters, Sharen Friese and Linda Snair, both of Chambersburg; a niece; and four nephews.

Graveside services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Parklawns Memorial Gardens in Chambersburg. The Rev. Christopher Little will officiate.

There will be no viewing.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Mount Pleasant United Brethren Church, 2509 Black Gap Road, Chambersburg, PA 17201.

Oren M. Carlin Sr.


CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Oren M. Carlin Sr., 67, of 800 Mickeys Inn Lane, died Friday, Aug. 15, 2003, at Beverly Healthcare in Fayetteville, Pa.

Born Dec. 31, 1935, in Burnt Cabins, Pa., he was the son of the late Willis Linn and Bertha E. Carlin Suter.

He worked for Smitty's Mobile Homes in Greencastle, Pa., as a laborer.

He attended Freedom of Christ Church in Chambersburg.

He is survived by a daughter, Darlene Hager of Greencastle; a son, Oren M. Carlin Jr.; a half sister, Trisha Linn of Mount Union, Pa.; three half brothers, Willis Linn and Charles Linn, both of Mount Union, and Norman Linn of Newton Hamilton, Pa.; three grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his stepfather, Howard Suter.

Services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Freedom of Christ Church in Chambersburg. The Rev. John Pogue will officiate. Burial will be in Parklawns Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be Wednesday at 10 a.m. at the church.

Zachary M. Jones


HEDGESVILLE, W.Va. - Zachary Marshall Jones, 18, of Hedgesville, died Friday, Aug. 15, 2003, the result of an automobile accident.

Born Feb. 3, 1985, in Winchester, Va., he was the son of Susan "Liz" Hitt Butts of Hedgesville and Robert Craig Jones of Jarvisburg, N.C.

He was a 2003 graduate of Hedgesville High School.

He was employed by Lippert Welding.

He was a member of Tomahawk Christian Church.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by paternal grandparents D. Robert and Barbara L. Jones of Hagerstown; a sister, Tiffany L. Roberts of Martinsburg, W.Va.; a brother, Joshua C. Jones of Martinsburg; a niece; and two nephews.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Roy and Marguerite Hitt.

Services will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home in Martinsburg. The Rev. Lee Ashley will officiate. Burial will be in Tomahawk Christian Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Rebecca H. Naugle


Rebecca Hull Naugle, 60, of 11415 Edgewood Road, Hagerstown, died Friday, Aug. 15, 2003, at her home.

Born June 24, 1943, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late James Perry and Margaret Huffer Hull.

She was a 1961 graduate of Boonsboro High School and a 1962 graduate of Hagerstown Business College.

She was a retired employee of Potomac Edison and an employee of The Herald-Mail.

She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, where she sang in the choir, was treasurer and pianist for the Sunday school and was a member of the Worship and Music Committee and the church council.

She is survived by her husband of 35 years, Gary A. Naugle.

Services will be Tuesday at 7 p.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Funkstown. The Rev. Darrell L. Layman will officiate.

Burial will be Wednesday in Boonsboro Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home in Hagerstown.
