An ethical and reputable funeral home will:

  • Provide a detailed price list of services and merchandise.

  • Provide, at the conclusion of the funeral arrangement conference, a written statement of the services and merchandise purchased and the prices.

  • Provide a written preneed funeral contract explaining, in plain language, your rights and obligations.

  • Guarantee in the contract that merchandise or services of equal or greater value will be substituted, at no cost, if the selected merchandise or services are not available.

  • Explain in the contract how to transfer a preneed contract to a funeral home outside the service area.

  • State in the contract where and how much of what you pay will be deposited until the funeral is provided.

  • Explain in the contract who will be responsible for paying taxes on income or interest generated by the investment of preneed funds.

  • Inform you in the contract whether the services and merchandise are guaranteed.

  • Explain how to cancel a contract and how much will be refunded.
