Suns' Hennessey quiets Bats

Brad Hennessey allowed just four hits over eight innings and Carlos Sosa went 4-for-4 as the Hagerstown Suns kept pace in the South Atlantic League Northern Division wild card race with a 3-1 victory over the Greensboro Bats on Friday at Municipal Stadium.

The Suns (60-58, 25-26 second half) remain 2 1/2 games behind the Lexington Legends, who defeated Lakewood Friday, in the battle a postseason berth.

Greensboro (61-59, 25-26) falls 2 1/2 behind Lexington with Friday's loss.

The Suns took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the third when Fred Lewis and Sosa singled and both scored on Brian Buscher's two-run single.

Greensboro got an unearned run off Hennessey (3-7) in the fifth when Julian Benavidez misplayed Lee Mitchell's grounder, allowing Angel Molina to score.

The Suns got an insurance run in the seventh on Sosa's RBI single.

The Bats tried to rally in the ninth, but Scott Munter closed the door to pick up his fourth save.
