Hagerstown's buy-back policy

Under Hagerstown's sick leave buy-back policy:

  • A union city employee who has accumulated more than 100 paid sick days over the years can "sell" back up to 10 days a year. Those with fewer accumulated sick days can sell up to five back to the city.

  • The offer is limited to the first five or 10 days available annually, meaning if an employee used seven sick days in any year that employee would be allowed to sell back only three.

  • Full-time employees earn 15 paid sick days annually after the first year. In their first year, employees earn 12 days.

  • Days not used or sold back to the city are automatically added to an employee's accumulated total.
