August 12, 2003

Editor's note - Please be as brief as possible when calling Mail Call, The Daily Mail's reader call-in line.

Mail Call is not staffed on weekends or holidays so it is best to call Mail Call during the week. The Mail Call number is 301-791-6236.

You are welcome to leave a recorded message on any subject, but some calls will be screened out.

Here are some of the calls we have received lately:

"Does anyone know when they are going to start working on the bridge on Broadfording Road? It has been closed for two months. They may have worked on it for two days this week. People are tired of going 10 or 20 miles out of their way every day. Maybe the Herald-Mail could check this out."

"This is for the lady in the 300 block of Devonshire Road. Please keep your dog on your property to go to the bathroom, keep it off the 200 block."

"To the person who was looking for information for the class reunion for the South Hagerstown High School Class of 1978. The Class reunion of 25 years was held this past Saturday at the Four Points Sheraton."

"Why don't they fix the road that goes down from South Potomac Street to Frederick Street, down past Rose Hill Cemetery. It is nothing but potholes. It has been that way for the past 25 years."

"Seems like the only people that the city politicians want in the city are Section 8 and the people who agree with them 100 percent. No middle class or people who think, need to live in Hagerstown."

"We love the Baltimore Ravens and we were also surprised that they didn't cover them."

"Does anyone know the Web site is where you find out sex offenders and the child molesters' in your area. Leave the information in Mail Call."

"I have a 10-year-old son who wants to play basketball, where can I register him for it?"

"I was reading in Wednesday's paper about the person who was interested in locating a Wal-mart in Smithsburg. I think that is a great idea. We have lots of traffic and it would be good for this small town."

"I would like to commend Washington County Schools on the new dress code. When I pick up my sixth grader at Greencastle, those girls are no more than 12 or 13 years old and they are wearing low rise shorts exposing their midriffs, some of them even have belly piercings. If they had good parents, they would not be allowed to leave the house looking like that."

"I have two questions about the proposal to move the hospital out of Hagerstown. First, how does this meet with the state of Maryland's Smart Growth plan that was started well over 10 years ago? Second, if this is going to be called a Regional Hospital, is West Virginia and Pennsylvania going to contribute?"

"My first encounter with a police officer, was less than pleasant but my second was with a lieutenant from the Hagerstown City Police, I don't remember his name. I was very frightened and confused, he took his time to explain procedure to me. He was professional and understanding. Hagerstown City Police chose wisely. I took your advice and I am not as frightened as before. Thank you for taking your time with me."

"We had a problem with a Section 8 family in our neighborhood. We contacted Don Munson's office and the problem was taken care of. So get in touch with his office and it will get taken care of."

"The number for the prescription's from Canada is 1-888-569-3779."
