Vocal student plans recital at St. Paul's

August 12, 2003

Diana Bryan, a vocal student of Niki Perini and a recent graduate of Clear Spring High School, will hold a senior recital at St. Paul's Lutheran Church on St. Paul's Road near Clear Spring.

The recital, "With A Smile and A Song," will be Saturday at 7 p.m.

Bryan described the recital as a rite of passage. "This is the way my family, friends, and the community are sending me off to college," she said.

She will perform songs spanning the years from her youth to music she studies now.

In the fall, Bryan will attend Catholic University's Benjamin T. Rome School of Music, where she will major in vocal performance.

Among Bryan's honors are Maryland Distinguished Scholarship for voice ($3,000 a year); winner of Shepherd College vocal competition 2002; third place in classical and Broadway categories in NATS (National Association of Teachers of Singing) competition for the Maryland/District of Columbia chapter; highest ratings at county and state levels of The Board of Education's Solo and Ensemble Festival; first place at NATS regionals in classical and second place in the Broadway category in Greensboro N.C.
