Area roundup - Brunswick drops NABF title

CANTON, Oh. - The Brunswick Orioles dropped a 12-6 decision to Canton, Ohio on Sunday in the finals of the National Amateur Baseball Federation tournament.

Canton rallied with seven runs in the last three innings to down the Orioles, who will host the Maryland state semi-pro tournament Aug. 23 at Brunswick High School.

Kevin Goode, for he third straight game, hit a pair of two-run home runs and had 16 RBI in the tournament. Corie O'Bryan also added a home run.


Peter Shaeffer crushed a 325-yard drive to win the Big Daddy's Long Drive contest at Beaver Creek as part of the WACO Open. He won $100 for his efforts.



Defending national champion Chris Carr of Fleetwood, Pa., led the entire way winning the AMA Progressive U.S. Flat Track Hub City Classic on Saturday at Hagerstown Speedway. He outracedMike Hacker, of Lancaster, Pa., by 1.1 seconds.

Scott Scherb, of Decatur, Texas, won the Harley Davidson Sportster Performance 12-lap main event, his first win of the season.

The Speedway will be in action Friday with the final round of the Winchester-Hagerstown Speedway Shootout. Saturday, the Conococheague 100 returns with the winner winning $10,000.
