Donoghue, Munson to be honored

August 08, 2003

The Maryland State Dental Association named Del. John P. Donoghue, D-Washington, House Legislator of the Year for 2003.

Donoghue sponsored legislation that will help dentists in pediatric residency programs and help new dental graduates throughout the country who wish to practice in Maryland, the association said.

Donoghue will receive a plaque and get to choose a Maryland dental student to receive a $500 stipend.

The award ceremony will be Sept. 19, during the Chesapeake Dental Conference in Ocean City, Md.

Sen. Donald F. Munson, R-Washington, will receive the Legislator of the Year Award for 2003 from the Maryland Retailers Association.

During the last legislative session, Munson "almost single-handedly prevented the elimination of the retailers expense allowance for collecting $2.6 billion in state sales taxes," Association President Tom Saquella said.

"Senator Munson has been a responsible voice for fiscal conservative policies and consistently backed merchants on their issues," he said.

Munson has represented Washington County in the Maryland General Assembly for 29 years.

The award will be presented at the association's annual convention Sept. 6 in Ocean City, Md.
