Mail Call for 8/7

August 08, 2003

Editor's note - Please be as brief as possible when calling Mail Call, The Daily Mail's reader call-in line.

Mail Call is not staffed on weekends or holidays so it is best to call Mail Call during the week. The Mail Call number is 301-791-6236.

You are welcome to leave a recorded message on any subject, but some calls will be screened out.

Here are some of the calls we have received lately:

"Would the gentleman selling pictures of homes on Jordan Road please return to the area? We are interested in a picture."

"I can't get over that Mail Call keeps printing these quotes from these people about the abortion issue and the pictures shown downtown. I completely disagree. I think they should show these pictures. Just because you don't see these pictures doesn't mean that this procedure doesn't go on. If you're going to be blind to stuff, first thing you know, something's going to sneak up on you and take you, too. We should have a news media and a newspaper with enough guts to show those pictures in the paper because that is exactly what happens and that goes on everyday in this country. But we don't have any newspapers with the guts to even print people's statements about it, let alone showing a picture."

"I think instead of all the schools teaching kids Spanish, the schools need to teach all the Spanish people English."

"Does anyone know the 800 number where you get the prescriptions from Canada?"

"The North Hagerstown High class of '63 will have a reunion this summer. Please call 301-797-9071 for details."

"If you're looking for single guys who aren't looking for Britney Spears copycats, I think you could go to a Weight Watchers meeting."

"Yes, I was out at Wal-Mart on Friday afternoon around 3:30 or 4 and when I came out unknown to me somebody had hit my car. I wanted to thank that person for not reporting it or coming in and letting someone in Wal-Mart know that you had hit my car but I wanted them to know that I had Wal-Mart run the camera and we know exactly who did it so they are giving you a week to turn yourself in or they are turning it over to the police. So I would appreciate it if you would turn yourself in."

"I'm really sick of the people who are calling Mail Call and always saying that they don't favor abortion. I have had abortions and I think it's my right. I don't think that they should be posting pictures of it up and down the street for everybody to see. It's a daily reminder to me and it hurts my feelings every time I see those pictures. I think the pictures need to go and to go quick. People like me don't want to see them."

"I put a dog up for adoption last September and people adopted him from the SPCA on Sept. 25, 2002, His name is Bevis and he is a Shih-Tzu and if you see this could you please call me at 301-791-6294. My name is Leaha and I just wanted to know how he is doing and that he is doing good for you. I would really appreciate it if you would get in touch with me and let me know because I really love him but I had to give him up because I just couldn't keep him. I really do love him very much."

"Penny Nigh might need to find a part-time job, she has too much time on her hands."

"You know, it must really be nice to drive around all day in a taxpayers' vehicle, using the taxpayers' money and when you feel like it quote 'running the car into the vehicle was the only way to stop the vehicle.' Who am I? I am a state cop. It's time for the abuse to end. State Police must own their own vehicles and stop using the taxpayers' money for their personal purposes."

"Would the woman who took the artificial flowers, the large basket of them from in front of the organ at South High graduation, please return them. You were seen going out the back door with them on the security camera."

"The display by the anti-abortionist people downtown, I have gone to my last anti-abortionist rally. I will not be associated with those people again. It was disgusting and I can't believe that this was allowed to happen. I will take my anti-abortion feelings independently from now. Those people don't get another dime."

"I would like to report that we have two dogs running around in the Friendship/Halfway Park area. One is black and white about 36 inches long and 24 inches high, the other one is brown and white, small dog with a curly tail. They have been running around for several months. I don't know if they have been dropped off or what, but I don't know what you can do."

"In answer to the question about what is being built behind the mall near Burger King. It is going to be a hotel."

"I want to comment about the city police working without a contract. This has been going on long enough, it's time that someone does something about it."

"To the person who made the comment about the difference between Hagerstown and Frederick, that Frederick knows how to run their city. I have news for you, get the Frederick newspaper and read it everyday. You'll see how that city is messed up, too."
