Dog recovering from injuries sustained in pit bull attack

August 07, 2003|by ANDREW SCHOTZ

Snoopy, the mixed breed dog that was attacked by a pit bull Saturday, is recovering.

GeriLynn Kelbaugh of Spruce Street in Hagerstown said Tuesday that Snoopy suffered a deep puncture wound in her eye, which caused bleeding. Her eyelid was torn in five places, Kelbaugh said.

Snoopy also had at least 10 puncture wounds on her face and deep bruises in her ear, Kelbaugh said.

On Wednesday, Kelbaugh's daughter, Sarah, said Snoopy's eye was starting to swell shut. Snoopy was scheduled to see a veterinarian today.

GeriLynn Kelbaugh described Snoopy as a "hound dog mix," possibly part Jack Russell terrier and part beagle.

Tony, the 2-year-old American pit bull terrier that attacked Snoopy, was euthanized Monday at his owner's request. The Washington County Humane Society had declared him a "dangerous" dog.
