Louise M. Roach


Louise Mary Roach, 84, of Hagerstown, died Wednesday, Aug. 6, 2003, at Williamsport Retirement Village.

Born Nov. 5, 1918, in Johnstown, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Gabriel M. and Mary Zajac Ruttkay.

She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Hagerstown.

She was a member of Ladies of the Elks; BPOE Lodge 378 of Hagerstown; and Funkstown American Legion Post 211.

She is survived by her husband of 56 years, George W. Roach; two daughters, Deborah A. Mangiapane of Frederick, Md. and Janet M. Grossnickle of Wrightsville, Pa.; one son, David A. Roach of Hagerstown; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one brother, William G. Ruttkay; and one sister, Rita J. Payea.

Services will be Saturday at 9:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Hagerstown. The Rev. Robert Morey will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery.

Visitation will be Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Gerald N. Minnich Funeral Home, 305 N. Potomac St., Hagerstown.

Phyllis K. Ingram


WILLIAMSPORT - Phyllis Kae Ingram, 67, of 16 W. Salisbury St., who died Tuesday, Aug. 5, 2003, was born March 1, 1936, in Harpers Ferry, W.Va.




Lucille V. Barnhouse


BRUNSWICK, Md. - Lucille V. Barnhouse, 79, of 109 9th Ave., Brunswick, died Tuesday, Aug. 5, 2003, at Kline Hospice House.

Born April 8, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Jesse Lee and Sarah Harmon Garrott.

She retired from NIH, where she held various positions, her last being with the Eye Institute, where she handled grants.

She is survived by one son, Kenneth G. Barnhouse of Brunswick; three sisters, Elizabeth Barnhouse of Lucketts, Va., Evelyn Wilson and Audrey Williams, both of Brunswick; and one granddaughter.

She was preceded in death by three brothers, Howard M. Garrott, Marion F. Garrott and Clifford L. Garrott.

Her wishes of no viewing and cremation will be honored.

A memorial service will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at New York Hill United Methodist Church. The Rev. Clark D. Carr will officiate.

Arthur C. Stanley Jr.


CAVETOWN - Arthur Camp Stanley Jr., 84, of Cavetown, Md., passed away on Wednesday, Aug. 6, 2003, at Washington County Hospital.

Born Aug. 14, 1918, in Blue Ridge Summit, Pa., he was the son of the late Dr. Arthur Camp Stanley Sr. and Alice Willard (Boyd) Stanley.

He attended Friends School in Washington, D.C., graduated from St. James School in 1938, and attended the University of Virginia.

He retired as a state roads inspector from the Maryland State Highway Administration, and also was employed by Fairchild Industries.

He was a member of Eagles Aerie 1758 of Waynesboro, Pa.; Eagles Aerie 1562 of Gettysburg, Pa.; Moose Lodge Chapter 1136 of Waynesboro; South Mountain Rod and Gun Club; Elks Lodge 731 of Waynesboro; and Redmen of Williamsport, Md.

He is survived by two daughters, Alys Willard Boyd Stanley of Riverside, Mich. and Holly Garrett of Hagerstown, Md.; a son, Arthur Camp Stanley III of Hagerstown; a sister, Katherine Menz of Blue Ridge Summit; grandchildren, Benjamin R. Chabot, Robert B. Chabot, Ramond V. Stanley, John R. Stanley, Richard D. Garrett Jr. and April L. Snider; great-grandchildren, Hunter L. Garrett and Stephen Camp Stanley; nieces and nephews.

He is also survived by a devoted friend, Ray Stottlemyer; and longtime caregiver and friend, Patsy Kirby.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, John C. Stanley and C. Willard Stanley; and by his longtime companion, Mildred Stottlemyer.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Aug. 9, 2003, at 9:30 a.m. at Rest Haven Funeral Chapel, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown. Father Patrick Pierce will officiate. Burial will follow in Rest Haven Cemetery.

The family will receive friends on Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral chapel.




Barbara A. Moats


GREENCASTLE, Pa. - Barbara A. Moats, 58, of Molly Pitcher Highway, died Wednesday, Aug. 6, 2003, at Hershey (Pa.) Medical Center.

Born July 13, 1945, in Hancock, she was the daughter of the late George R. and Ellen McGowan Weller.

She was a 1962 graduate of Hancock High School.

She was a homemaker.

She as a member of Stonebridge Church of the Brethren near Hancock.

She is survived by her husband, Kenneth E. Moats, whom she married Nov. 22, 1963; one daughter, Sharon M. Kelly of Stafford, Va.; one son, Kenneth E. Moats Jr. of Greencastle; nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Nancy C. Shirley and Virginia Noll; and one brother, Robert E. Weller.

Services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Stone Bridge Church of the Brethren in Hancock. The Revs. Harry Strite and Paul Martin will officiate. Burial will be in the adjoining church cemetery.
