Smithsburg EMS calls listed

Smithsburg Emergency Medical Services had 97 calls for service in July. Of those calls, 15 were to Frederick County, Md., four to Franklin County, Pa., and one to Adams County, Pa.

Fifteen calls were in the Smithsburg town limits, 10 in the Mount Aetna area, eight in the Cascade area, seven in the Leitersburg area, and five to the Hagerstown area.

The most common call types, 31, were for trouble breathing and vehicle accidents.

A total of 54 patients were taken to Washington County Hospita, three were taken to Waynesboro Hospital and two were taken to Frederick Memorial Hospital.

After a three-hour rescue, one patient was flown to Washington County Hospital by Maryland State Police helicopter after being injured on the Appalachian Trail, according to Capt. James Ulrich.
