John H. Stine


CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - John H. Stine, 95, of Penn Hall Nursing Home, and formerly of 220 Harrison Ave. in Waynesboro, Pa., died Saturday, Aug. 2, 2003, at the home.

Born Jan. 9, 1908, in Waynecastle, Pa., he was the son of the late Jacob and Ada Gordon Stine.

His wife, Aileen Rose Hess Stine, died May 8, 2003. They were married Nov. 10, 1928.

He worked at Landis Tool Co. for 35 years in the drilling department as a machinist, retiring in 1972.

He was a member of Otterbein United Brethren in Christ Church in Waynesboro, and the Men's Bible Class.

He is survived by two daughters, Jane M. Hawbaker of Carlisle, Pa., and Lois S. Abbott of Waynesboro; two grandsons, John A. Abbott IV and Delbert Hawbaker II; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by eight sisters, Mary Kell, Elva Koons, Ruth Stine, infants Hazel Stine, Hamsher Stine and Ada Stine, Sue Strite and Clara Byers; five brothers, Abraham Stine, Earl Stine, Denton Stine, George Stine and Jacob Stine; and one granddaughter.

Services will be Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, Waynesboro. The Rev. Wilber L. Sites and Pastor Bill Schuit will officiate. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery, Waynesboro.

The family will receive friends Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Otterbein United Brethren in Christ Church Building Fund, 912 S. Potomac St., Waynesboro, PA 17268.




James M. Main


MIDDLETOWN, Md. - James Maurice Main, 64, of 7410 Picnic Woods Road, died Saturday, Aug. 2, 2003, at Frederick (Md.) Memorial Hospital.

Born Oct. 5, 1938, in Harmony, Md., he was the son of Mae Rohrer Main of Myersville, Md., and the late George Maurice Main.

He was employed at Ford Motor Co. in Frederick.

He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Middletown.

He was a member of AMVETS Post 9 in Middletown, and Harmony Cornet Band.

He is survived by his wife, Patsy Shafer Main; and two sons, Eric M. Main and Michael S. Main, both of Middletown.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Robert Main.

Services will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Donald B. Thompson Funeral Home, Middletown. The Rev. William M. Bucher will officiate. Burial will be in Lutheran Cemetery, Middletown.

The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home, where friends may call at any time.

Elsie S. Mills


Elsie Stover Kisiel Mills, 82, of 304 Avon Road in Hagerstown, died Friday, Aug. 1, 2003, at her home.

Born Oct. 6, 1920, in Washington County, she was the daughter of the late Harvey C. and Molly Sellers Stover.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James L. Mills Jr.

She was employed by Moller Organ Co. for 41 years.

She was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ, State Line, Pa.

She is survived by two daughters, Beverley Wallace and Catherine Smith, both of Hagerstown; one son, Roger Kisiel of New Albany, Ohio; four stepdaughters, Sonia Sullivan, Saundra Reeser, Jayne Rockwell and Betty Reedy, all of Hagerstown; 15 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a stepson, Robert Mullenix; asister, Mary E. Stover; and three brothers, Mike Stover, George F. Stover and Charles Stover.

Services will be Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, East Wilson Boulevard, Hagerstown. The Rev. Ed. J. Higginbottom will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery.

The family will receive friends today from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Thelma I. Edwards


CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Thelma I. Walck Edwards, 89, of Menno Haven Nursing Home, and formerly of 59 Spring Grove Ave. in Greencastle, Pa., died Friday, Aug. 1, 2003, at Chambersburg Hospital.

Born July 22, 1914, in Franklin County, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Lester R. and Mary Zeigler Walck.

Her husband, George W. Edwards, died March 16, 1961. They were married July 26, 1937.

She was a 1932 graduate of Greencastle High School, and attended Strayer's Business School in Baltimore for one year.

She worked for Bowman Hatchery in Westminster, Md., retiring in 1987.

She was a member of Evangelical Lutheran Church of Greencastle, and served on the Flower Committee.

She worked with the 1960 Census of Greencastle, was a den leader with the Cub Scouts and was president of the P.T.A. of Greencastle High School.

She is survived by one daughter, Josephine E. Karantonis of Fallston, Md.; one son, George L. Edwards of Greencastle; one sister, Virginia W. Fitz of Greencastle; three grandchildren; one great-grandson; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Ethel Miller and Anna M. Davis; and four brothers, Henry Z. Walck, Kenneth Walck, Chalmers Walck and Richard Walck.
