Police investigate Pa. shooting death

July 29, 2003

WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Washington Township police were investigating the shooting death of a man in a residence on Old Route 16 Monday night and by late Monday said they had not determined the cause of death.

The victim was not identified.

Franklin County Coroner Jeffrey R. Conner and Deputy Coroner Kenneth Peiffer were on the scene. Conner would confirm only that the victim was a male.

Conner, Peiffer and Sgt. Vernon Ashway, the criminal investigator for the Washington Township police department, donned white rubber gloves, went inside the house while Township Police Chief Barry Keller and other officers milled around outside.

Photographic flashes could be seen through the windows.

Several neighbors gathered on the front porch of the house next door, but they declined to comment.

The call came in over the police monitor around 7:45 p.m. as an expiration and a shooting.
