Franklin County, Pa., has four deadly weeks

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Three deaths in three single-vehicle accidents over the weekend brought the highway death toll in Franklin County to seven in the past four weeks, according to Pennsylvania State Police and Franklin County Coroner Jeffrey R. Conner:

  • Bennie E. Lansberry, 52, of Hedgesville, W.Va., died Sunday evening, when the motorcycle he was operating struck a guardrail on Interstate 81 south of Chambersburg, Pa.

  • Devon Allen Gottfried, 19, of Chambersburg, was killed early Saturday when his car ran off U.S. 30, striking a drainage culvert and a utility pole, police said.

  • Christina Fling, 28, of Hagerstown, died Friday evening when she lost control of a Ford Explorer pulling a trailer. She died of head injuries when the vehicle rolled over in the median, according to Conner.

  • Joshua Everetts, 18, and George K. Leavy, 17, both of Greencastle, Pa., were killed Saturday, July 19, when the car Everetts was driving turned into the path of a tractor-trailer at the intersection of Pa. 16 and Hill Road, according to police.

  • Galen Lee Yohe Jr., 33, of Fayetteville, Pa., was killed Saturday, July 5, when the motorcycle he was riding hit a guardrail on Pa. 997 in Guilford Township.

  • Cathy Jane Daley, 49, of Greencastle, Pa., died in a one-car accident Monday, June 30. Police said she was driving south on Pa. 416 in Montgomery Township when her car struck a guardrail and a utility pole.
