Daniel H. Shetron


CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Daniel Harold Shetron, 77, of 370 Grandview Ave., died Tuesday, July 22, 2003, at Chambersburg Hospital.

Born April 15, 1926, in Edenville, Pa., he was the son of the late Frank L. and Velva P. Kohr Shetron.

He attended school in Edenville.

He owned Shetron's Tire Service Inc. in Shippensburg, Pa.

A veteran of World War II, he served in the U.S. Air Force.

He was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church in Chambersburg.

He was a member of Durff-Kuhn VFW Post 6168 and Oscar M. Hykes American Legion Post 223, both of Shippensburg; and Shippensburg's Chamber of Commerce, which named him Businessman of the Year in 1996.

He is survived by his wife, Syvilla M. "Billie" Brown Ward Shetron; one daughter, Kimberly A. Shetron-Chesnut of Shippensburg; one stepson, William E. Ward Jr. of Lemorre, Calif.; one granddaughter; two stepgrandchildren; nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one son, Daniel H. Shetron III; and two brothers.

Services will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home, Shippensburg. The Rev. A. Robert Cook will officiate. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery, Shippensburg, with military honors by the VFW and American Legion Posts of Shippensburg.

Visitation will be Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Catherine M. Higgins


BLUE RIDGE SUMMIT, Pa. - Catherine M. Higgins, 78, of Laurel Acres Trailer Court, died Wednesday, July 23, 2003, at Manor Care Nursing Home in Chambersburg, Pa.

Born March 30, 1925, in Lawrenceville, Ill., she was the daughter of the late Sylvester and Pansy Bennett Plough.

Her husband, William Lewis Higgins, died May 7, 1990.

She was a housewife.

She is survived by three sons, William S. Higgins of State Line, Pa., Raymond L. Higgins and John L. Higgins, both of Waynesboro, Pa.; five sisters, Norma Smith of Texas, Thelma Gibson of King George, Va., and Mona Ford, Donna Yager and Linda Pott, all of Lawrenceville; five brothers, James Wampler of Indianapolis, Lee Wampler of Philadelphia, and Lonnie Wampler, Ronnie Wampler and Gail Wampler, all of Indiana; five grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by one brother, one granddaughter and one great-grandson.

Services will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Lochstampfor Funeral Home in Waynesboro. The Rev. Eugene Cline will officiate. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday at 1 p.m.




Dora V. Lloyd


CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. - Dora V. Lloyd, 85, of Charles Town, died Wednesday, July 23, 2003, at Winchester (Va.) Medical Center.

Born Aug. 15, 1917, in Clarke County, Va., she was the daughter of the late Henry Walter and Lillian O. Smallwood Lloyd.

She retired after 50 years with Dixie-Narco Co. in Ranson, W.Va.

She was a member of Charles Town Baptist Church, taught Sunday school and had been Mission Friends director.

She is survived by one sister, Ruby C. Lloyd of Charles Town; one brother, William W. Lloyd of Charles Town; six nieces; two nephews; great-nieces and great-nephews.

She was preceded in death by three sisters, Mary K. Fritts, Isabelle Creamer and Corean Ferrell; two brothers, Edward Lloyd and Eugene Lloyd; and one niece.

Services will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Charles Town Baptist Church. Dr. Wyman Hall will officiate. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery, Berryville, Va.

The family will receive friends Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Melvin T. Strider Colonial Funeral Home, Charles Town.

Earl A. Downs


Earl A. "Tom" Downs, 79, of Emerald Drive, Hagerstown, died Wednesday, July 23, 2003, at Reeders Memorial Home in Boonsboro.

Born Sept. 13, 1923, near Williamsport, he was the son of the late Earl F. Downs and Anna E. Ardinger Downs Sinsel.

He retired from the Hagerstown Post Office in 1989 after 40 years.

A veteran of World War II, he served in the U.S. Army Air Corps.

He is survived by his wife, Evelyn M. Swope Downs; and one daughter, Teresa L. Downs of Silver Spring, Md.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Mary L. Downs; and one brother, James Ardinger.

A memorial service will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Bethel United Methodist Church, Chewsville. The Rev. John W. Schildt will officiate.

Burial will be at the convenience of the family in Rest Haven Cemetery, Hagerstown.

The family will receive friends Saturday at 10 a.m. at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, Western Maryland Chapter, 5 Public Square, Hagerstown, MD 21740.




Helen Y. Martello


CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Helen Y. Martello, 82, of 153 Colonial Drive, died Tuesday, July 22, 2003, at her home.

Born June 17, 1921, in Monongahela, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Metro and Sophia Fedak Yevincy.
