River Awareness Day is Saturday

BRUNSWICK, Md. - Potomac River Awareness Day will be held on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Brunswick City Campground.

The National Park Service, Chesapeake & Ohio Canal National Historical Park, City of Brunswick, Maryland State Department of Natural Resources, Maryland State Police, U.S. Coast Guard and The Potomac Conservancy will set up educational and environmental exhibits and offer programs for visitors such as interpretive and nature walks.

The C&O Canal staff will join with volunteers in a cleanup along the towpath. Bags and gloves will be provided. All volunteers should meet at the C&O Canal tent at 9 a.m.

Highlights of Potomac River Awareness Day include a noon boat judging and the Great Brunswick River Race starting at 1 p.m.

Admission is free and refreshments will be available for sale throughout the day.
