Bats fail Suns again

July 21, 2003

EASTLAKE, Ohio - Clutch hitting has been the major deficiency for the Hagerstown Suns all season long, and Sunday's 6-0 loss to the Lake County Captains proved to be a microcosm of their season.

Hagerstown left 13 runners on base, including seven in scoring position, as the Suns dropped a season-high sixth straight game.

The Suns' best opportunity to score came in the top of the second, trailing 1-0. Hagerstown loaded the bases with one out on consecutive singles by Jay Knowlton, Steve Holm, and Randy Walter. But groundouts by Fred Lewis and Kevin Alexander ended the threat.

Lake County scored two more against Suns starter Brad Hennessey (1-5) in the bottom of the second, with Brian Kirby scoring on a double to left by Ricardo Rojas and Javier Herrera scoring on a bases-loaded walk to make it 3-0.

Herrera homered in the sixth and Rojas added a solo shot in the seventh against Suns reliever Jason Waddell.
