Police probe inmate suicide

The Washington County Sheriff's Department said a 19-year-old inmate hanged himself at the Washington County Detention Center Saturday afternoon.

Police said Detention Center staff members made several unsuccessful attempts to resuscitate Zachary Burger of Hagerstown before EMS crews arrived.

Burger was taken to Washington County Hospital where he was pronounced dead, police said.

The suicide happened at noon.

Police said he faced drug-related charges.

Police said they are investigating the incident.

Two men sought in Noland Village clash

The Hagerstown Police Department is looking for two men who were in an altercation with an 18-year-old man at Noland Village on Saturday.

One of the men reportedly held a knife to the 18-year-old's throat, police said.

The man told police he was walking on Court 1 about 1:10 a.m. when two men - whom he identified as a white man named Vince and a black man named Daniel - approached him. The 18-year-old said he fought with the men.


One of the men allegedly held a knife against the 18-year-old, cutting his throat slightly, police said. He did not require medical care.

Police have asked that anyone with information about the incident call them at 301-790-3700.

Three charged with drug possession

FREDERICK, Md. - Police arrested three people Friday night and Saturday morning and charged them with possessing illegal drugs.

At about 8:15 p.m. Friday, officers in the Frederick Police Department's Drug Enforcement Unit allegedly saw someone with what appeared to be crack cocaine near the Sagner public housing community.

Police said they arrested Nathaniel Thomas Roberts, 38, of the 1000 block of Greenwall Place, Frederick, as he got into a vehicle on Hope Alley. Roberts was charged with possession of crack cocaine.

The driver of the vehicle, Arturo Zurita Cruz, 25, also of the 1000 block of Greenwall Place, was charged with possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

At about 12:40 a.m., the Drug Enforcement Unit went to the neighborhood around All Saints and South Market streets to arrange a controlled purchase of crack cocaine.

They arrested Marvin Louis White, 44, of the 100 block of West All Saints Street, Frederick. He was charged with distribution of crack cocaine, possession with the intent to distribute crack cocaine and possession of crack cocaine.
