Man charged with assault

A Hagerstown man faces assault charges after being accused of striking a man in the face with a handgun in early 2002.

Steven Vincent Dillinger, 24, of the 300 block of South Mulberry Street, was in the Washington County Detention Center on $225,000 bond Friday, according to District Court records.

Dillinger was charged with first- and second-degree assault, reckless endangerment, use of a handgun in a violet crime, possession of firearms and illegal possession of a firearm stemming from a March 9, 2002, incident, according to records.

Dillinger is accused of brandishing a handgun, threatening to kill Kaumba Simmons and striking Simmons in the face with the gun at the home of Dillinger's girlfriend in the first block of Wakefield Road, according to records.

Simmons was treated at Martinsburg Hospital for injuries to his cheekbone and lip, according to records.

Hagerstown Police arrested Dillinger on Thursday, a spokesman said. The spokesman did not know where police picked up Dillinger.

Dillinger also was wanted for violating terms of probation on a second-degree assault conviction.
