The Conococheague Little League 9 & 10 All-Star team - the District 1 champions - begins play in the sectional tournament at home Saturday against the District 2 champions from Thurmont.

Games will be Saturday, Sunday and Monday, if necessary, at Conococheague at 6 p.m. The winner of the best-of-3 series will advance to the state tournament next weekend in Frederick.

"We're ready to play," Conococheague manager Mike Iseminger said. "A Conococheague team hasn't advanced this far since the 11-12-year-olds won the district championship in 1961."

The Conococheague Little League All-Stars went 5-0 en route to the district title. The streak included wins over Maugansville, West End, Federal and Halfway twice.

Iseminger likes the team's chances.

"Everyone on the team hits the ball well," Iseminger said. "We hope to get good pitching and play good defense."

Team members include Kemper Baker, Bradley Banzhoff, Devin Byrd, Conner Arnone, Tyler Byers, Zach Lucas, Daryl Shirley, Andrew Moats, Tyson Cline, Nate Willis, Stephen Christy and Dustin Violet.

The coaching staff includes manager Iseminger and coaches Dave Schriver, Bob Demmit and Donovan Violet.
