Drive-in theater set to open Friday

July 17, 2003

Owners of the Mason Dixon Dragway and American Family Entertainment will open The Mason-Dixon Drive-In Theatre Friday at the dragway on Route 40 east of Hagerstown.

The opening night movies will be "The Wizard of Oz" and "Grease."

Movies are expected to be shown on Friday and Sunday nights at the conclusion of racing. Moviegoers will listen to the movie over their car radios or portable FM radios, and see movies digitally projected onto an inflatable 50-foot screen.

Dragway officials said there is parking for a little more than 300 vehicles. The gates will open at 7 p.m. and the first movie should begin at 9 p.m.

The Friday and Sunday movies will continue through the fall, with show times geared to dusk. The show usually will include a double-feature for one price of $10 per vehicle, organizers said.
