July 14, 2003

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. - A two-day Quaker-based workshop called Alternatives to Violence will be offered to the community on Friday, July 25, from 7 to 9 p.m. and Saturday, July 26, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Held at the St. Agnes Activity Center on Duke Street, the event will lead participants through a series of exercises and dialogue on how to resolve conflict peacefully, improve listening skills, build trust, self esteem and assertiveness.

Participants are required to attend both sessions, and to bring a brown-bag lunch on Saturday. Admission, beverages, snacks and classroom materials are free. To register call Donna Acquaviva at 304-229-9569 or send an e-mail to WriteforPub@aol.com.

Alternatives to Violence began in 1974 in the prison system.
