Martin L. Wells Sr.


SHARPSBURG - Martin "Marty" Lee Wells Sr., 46, of Sharpsburg passed away at his home on Friday, July 11, 2003.

Born in Alexandria, Va., on July 18, 1956, he was the son of Raymond N. Sr. and Vivian D. O'Neal Wells of Haines City, Fla.

He was a member of First Baptist church of Sharpsburg.

He was employed by the federal government as a firefighter for Fort Detrick in Frederick, Md.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his loving wife of 26 years, Cindy Marie Myers Wells; two sons, Martin Jr. and his wife, Emmalee Wells, of Myrtle Beach, S.C., Charles and his wife, Alexandra Wells, of Sharpsburg; a brother, Raymond N. Wells III of Dolores, Colo.; and father- and mother-in-law Charles and Norma Myers of Harrisonburg, Va.

Services will be held Monday, July 14, 2003, at 2:30 p.m. at Rest Haven Funeral Chapel. Pastor Timothy Hadley will officiate. Burial will follow in Rest Haven Cemetery.

Visitation will be at First Baptist Church of Sharpsburg, 18823 Shepherdstown Pike, Keedysville, Md., Sunday, July 13, 2003, from 7 to 9 p.m.

The family has requested that donations be made to the First Baptist Church of Sharpsburg, 18823 Shepherdstown Pike, Keedysville, MD 21756.




Granville Jamison


BAKERTON, W.Va. - Granville "Chick" Jamison, 70, of Bakerton, died Saturday, July 12, 2003, at Winchester Medical Center, Winchester, Va.

Born Nov. 13, 1932, in Bakerton, he was the son of the late Albert S. Jamison and Daisy Drenner Jamison Parker.

He worked in refrigeration at Dixie-Narco and retired in 1996.

He was a member of Bakerton Church of God.

He was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the U.S. Army.

He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Eleanor V. Jamison; a daughter, Scarlett R. Spielman of Bedington, W.Va.; four sisters, Louise Talley and Lillian Lloyd, both of Bakerton, Dorothy Miller of Shepherdstown, W.Va., and Delores Manuel of Bolivar, W.Va.; four brothers, Donald Jamison and Wayne Jamison, both of Bakerton, Ray Jamison of Charles Town, W.Va., and Gerald Jamison of Ranson, W.Va.; and two grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Reva Furr, and a brother, Leo Jamison.

Services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Eackles-Spencer Funeral Home in Harpers Ferry, W.Va. The Rev. Cedric Sullivan will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant View Memory Gardens, Martinsburg, W.Va.

The family will receive friends Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.




Marion J. Harshman


Marion Johnson Harshman, 81, of 11020 Pin Oak Terrace in Hagerstown, passed away Friday, July 11, 2003, at Washington County Hospital.

He was born April 30, 1922, and raised on the family farm on Marker Road in Middletown Valley and had a continuing love for farming. His parents were the late Clyde Leatherman and Nellie Amanda Johnson Harshman.

He graduated from Middletown (Md.) High School in 1938 and was treasurer of the class reunion committee.

He was a lifetime member of Zion Lutheran Church in Middletown.

He opened Elaine's Dairy Bar in Charles Town, W.Va., on Aug. 29, 1947, then sold the business in 1963. He opened Harshman's Soft Ice Cream on Virginia Avenue in Halfway in August 1954 and operated it until its closing in November 1977.

He is survived by his wife, Elaine Shank Harshman, whom he married in Keedysville, Sept. 29, 1945; his sisters, Madeline Harshman Boone of Frederick, Md., and Helen Harshman Rudy of Middletown; a brother-in-law, Ret. U.S. Marine Corps Col. James W. Shank and his wife, Helen Shank; nieces and nephews including Dianne Lynn Speake of North Carolina, Barbara B. Schulz of Virginia, Douglas W. Shank of North Carolina, Bradley S. Shank of North Carolina, Connie B. Strasberger of Braddock Heights, Md., Jeannette R. Brust of Middletown, Kenneth W. Rudy of Frederick, Gary C. Rudy and Richard A. Rudy, both of Middletown, 23 grand nieces and nephews and numerous great-grand nieces and nephews.

A celebration of Marion's life will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, July 15, 2003, at Bast Funeral Home in Boonsboro. The Revs. Donald L. Turley and Eleanor S. Doub will officiate. Burial will be in Zion Lutheran Cemetery in Middletown.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Brent T. Johnson


WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Brent T. Johnson, 22, of 105 Sunnyside Ave., died Friday, July 11, 2003, at his home.

Born June 5, 1981, in Waynesboro, he was the son of W. Douglas and Barbara J. Helman Fisher of Waynesboro.

He was a 1999 graduate of Waynesboro Area Senior High School.

He was employed by Bonded Applicators of Hagerstown and Waynesboro as a roofer since 1999.
