One hurt in accident


A two-car accident on Leitersburg Pike Friday evening delayed traffic near the Pennsylvania border and resulted in one driver being taken to the hospital.

The accident occurred about 5 p.m. on Leitersburg Pike near Breezy Acres Road.

Charles Clevenger of Waynesboro was driving south on Leitersburg Pike in his 1995 Toyota truck, said Milton Bloom, deputy chief of the Leitersburg Volunteer Fire Co. Alleaha Rae Smith of Smithsburg was driving north on Leitersburg Pike.

Smith was turning left into a driveway when Clevenger's truck hit her 1990 Geo Storm, Bloom said.

Smith's car was damaged and she was taken to the Washington County Hospital, Bloom said. She was standing outside her car, which was almost split in two, when emergency vehicles arrived, he said. She was treated at the hospital and discharged, hospital officials said.

One lane of traffic was closed temporarily due to the accident.




Task Force arrests 4


The Washington County Narcotics Task Force arrested four people at two residences Thursday night, according to a task force news release.

At 9 p.m., the task force served a search warrant in the 12100 block of Heather Drive and allegedly found more than $1,000 in suspected cocaine, according to the release. James W. Randall III, 26, and Jessica L. Ashkettle, 23, both of the Heather Drive address, were charged with possession of cocaine with intent to distribute, possession of cocaine and possession of drug paraphernalia, the release said.

At 10:40 p.m., the task force served a search warrant in the 400 block of North Potomac Street and allegedly found a small amount of suspected crack cocaine, according to the release. Vincent W. Hernandez, 21, of New York and Herbert W. Younker, 52, of the first block of Summit Avenue in Hagerstown face charges of possession of cocaine and drug paraphernalia, the release said. Hernandez also faces one count each of distribution of cocaine and possession with intent to distribute cocaine.




Car reported stolen


A 1995 black Honda Civic with a West Virginia registration of 6FY947 was reported stolen Friday from the 1200 block of West Washington Street in Hagerstown, Washington County Sheriff's Department deputies said.

Police said the car was stolen between 10:30 p.m. Thursday and 6:14 a.m. Friday. The car has tinted windows, 17-inch rims and several decorative stickers.
