SHARPSBURG - The Sharpsburg Historical Society invites the public to join the town in celebrating its 240th anniversary today at 6:30 p.m.
The third annual Sharpsburg Founder's Day event will take place, rain or shine, at Mountain View Cemetery on Md. 34 across from Antietam National Cemetery.
A remembrance ceremony will be held at the grave site of town founder Joseph Chapline Sr. and will include a wreath laying, period music, interpretive program by re-enactors from Fort Frederick and an honor guard salute.
A community social will follow under a festival tent in the Antietam National Cemetery parking lot and will include colonial living history, period music by Whipoorwill, historical exhibits, birthday cake, light food and refreshments.
