Area Roundup - Seligman wins in playoff

Kellen Seligman and Seth Moul each fired two-under par 70 and Seligman went on to win the 16-18 age division of the Tri-State Junior Golf Tournament on Monday at Black Rock Golf Course.

Seligman knocked down a birdie on the first playoff hole to win the division. Kevin Reiber finished third with a one-under par 71.

Nick Zaccaria took first in the 14-15 age division with a 78 while Alex Hoffman blitzed the 12-13 age division with a 76 to win by 10 strokes.


Hagerstown 8 Waynesboro 7

In the bottom of the ninth, Hagerstown's John Quail lined a bases loaded single up the middle scoring Danny Fowler and giving the Braves a victory in the Blue Ridge League.


Quail finished with three hits and two RBI, while Trey Cobb and Fowler each added two hits. Cobb also drove in two runs for Hagerstown (26-4, 23-2). Matt Bellon pitched seven innings, striking out nine in a no-decision.

Burt Storms hit a three-run home run in the top of the second for the Villagers.

Jefferson 6, Brunswick 2

BRUNSWICK, Md. Jefferson smacked three home runs on the way to its victory over Brunswick.

Justin Flook had a two-run homer in the first inning and then connected for a solo homer in the fifth. Andy Maught also had a two-run homer for Jefferson (10-13) in the first inning.

Brunswick (15-5) scored its runs on solo blasts by Steve Goode and Jason Mobley.

Justin Frushour tossed a four-hitter for the complete-game victory.


Hagerstown Pony League

Goodwill 11, Hagerstown Floors 1: Marcellus Sumlin pitched a two-hitter with 12 strikeouts for Goodwill with Zach Shoemaker adding two hits, including a home run, and Brett Turner collecting two hits and three RBI. For Hagerstown Floors, Brandon Rohrer had a solo home run and Adam Merrbaugh had 10 strikeouts.

Md. District 1 11-12 Tourney

Federal 9, Maugansville 3: Jeremy Barron and Cody Nelling each had two hits, while Preston Button hit a three-run homer for Federal. Corey Morgan had two hits for Maugansville.

Smithsburg 7-8 Tournament

Clear Spring 12, Valley B 9: Ryan Aaron and Nick Hill each had three hits for Clear Spring, while Jared Brant, Zach Bowers, Bradley Webb, C.J. Elwood, Shawn Kreps and Evan McDonough each had two hits. Ryan Karroll had three hits for Valley, while Kyle Huntzberry and Cory Michael each had two hits.

Wash. Co. Co-Ed Softball

Bill Baisey Kia 19, Four-Star 8: Mike Green and Donnie Blickenstaff each had three hits, including a home run, to lead Bill Baisey Kia. Also for Bill Baisey, Amber Small, Kristie Blickenstaff and Norma Burker each had three hits while Alan Walters added a homer.

Keefer's Lawn Care 5, Minnicks Plumbing 4: Brian Trittapoe hit a home run for Keefer's. Don Barnes and Davey Stouffer each had two hits for Keefer's.

ARC of Washington County 12, Covenant Life Church 9: Billy Rand and Eric Avey each had a home run for ARC while Nancy Porter, Liz Rock and Marsha Rand each had two hits for Washington.

High School Division

Aladdin Awards 9, Ace 2: Jamie Fowler pitched a complete game with 14 strikeouts for Aladdin. Christina Embly, Kara Williamson and Brittany Kretzer all added triples for Aladdin. Dee Brown and Kris Creek each had two hits for Ace.

Redmen 21, Lightning Transport 4: Emily Huff and Sarah Austin had three hits, while Kelly Toms, Jessica Patey, Beth Decker, Ashlind Footen and Tiffany Funk each added two. Funk also homered in the win.


Hub City Softball

South End Tavern 16, Dual Highway Motors 14: Denny Brian and Matt Moats each had four hits while Troy Butts had two home runs including a grand slam for South End Tavern.

Thompson Gas 10, Corby's Thunder 2: Eric Bender had a home run for Thompson Gas.

Hagerstown Area Church

St. James 15, New Life 13: Brad Moore had five hits and Mike Hull added four hits to lead St. James. Bill Durburaw had two home runs for New Life.

Otterbein 28, West End Baptist 16: Kevin Walters and Ed Plank each had five hits for Otterbein. Dan Elgin Jr. and Tony Harnish homered for West End.

Tri-State Fellowship 13, Nazarene 6: Blane Smith had five hits, while Howard Metger added four to lead Tri-State. Shawn Barkley had four hits for Nazarene.

Hagerstown Seniors

AFL-CIO 18, FOP 12: Sam Stewart hit two home runs and Lou Stevens hit one for AFL-CIO.
