Allegheny Energy names new CFO

Allegheny Energy Inc. has named Jeffrey D. Serkes, former vice president and treasurer for IBM, as senior vice president and chief financial officer, the company announced Monday.

Serkes, 44, will be responsible for the company's financial, accounting, treasury and corporate development functions, according to the announcement.

Serkes has a bachelor's degree in business administration from The George Washington University and a master's degree in business administration from Rutgers University, where he serves on the business school's board of trustees, the announcement said.

Serkes was a vice president and deputy treasurer for RJR Nabisco before joining IBM.

Bruce Walenczyk, the energy company's former chief financial officer, took early retirement June 1. Regis Binder, vice president and treasurer, had been serving as interim chief financial officer.
