Area's weekend filled with festivities

Tri-State communities will have fireworks, music, games and other activities to celebrate the Fourth of July weekend.

Friday, July 4

  • City of Hagerstown Fairgrounds Park, 400 N. Mulberry St. For information, call 301-739-8577, extension 116.

    6 p.m. - Opening ceremonies feature Hagerstown Choral Arts Society and AMVETS Honor Guard.

    6:30 p.m. - The Shades

    7:30 p.m. - Bill Haley's Comets

    9:30 p.m. - Fireworks

    Take blankets or lawn chairs. Food and refreshments will be available.

  • Frederick's 4th - An Independence Day Celebration: Activities will include four stages of musical entertainment, free children's activities, amusements, a chili cook-off, volleyball tournament, boat rides and fireworks.     1:30 p.m. - Corvairs, '50s-style rock 'n' roll

    3:30 p.m. - America

    6 p.m. - Patriotic music in the band shell

    7 p.m. - Tammy Cochran, country artist

  • Greencastle-Antrim July Fourth Celebration will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Tayamentasachta Environmental Center, Leitersburg Street, in the pavilion and walnut grove areas in Greencastle, Pa.

  • WaynesboroFest and Waynesboro Fourth of July Jubilee, Waynesboro, Pa.

    8:30 a.m. - Firecracker five-kilometer run starts at Waynesboro Hospital.

    10:30 a.m. - Parade starts at Kmart parking lot and moves through downtown Waynesboro.

    Noon - Craft show, karaoke, tug-of-war, entertainment, food vendors and other activities at old East Junior High School fields across from Waynesboro Hospital.

    9:30 p.m. - Fireworks at old East Junior High School fields

  • Byron Memorial Park in Williamsport. At 8 p.m., the Williamsport Community Band performs. Fireworks follow. Rain date is Saturday, July 5.

  • A picnic will be open to all from noon to 3 p.m. in the town park at Washington and Gilmore streets in Harpers Ferry, W.Va. Rohrersville Band will perform.

  • War Memorial Park off Tennessee Avenue in Martinsburg, W.Va., will be the site for a day of celebration.

    Miniature golf opens at 11 a.m., pool opens at noon, pony and train rides begin at 1 p.m., and music begins at 5 p.m. Mick Souter, Dawn Rix and Catoctin will perform, and there will be karaoke. Fireworks will be visible from the park and the West end of town, but they will be shot off from the field between Interstate 81 and Dry Run Road.

  • Saturday, July 5

    • Maryland Symphony Orchestra's 18th annual Salute to Independence will include music from "Gods and Generals" during a concert at Antietam National Battlefield in Sharpsburg. Fireworks will follow the concert.

    • Municipal Stadium in Hagerstown will be the place for an evening of country music.

      Gates open at 5:30 p.m. with performances by Possum Holler, Shannon Lawson and John Michael Montgomery. Fireworks follow concert. Festival seating is first-come, first-served. For ticket information, call 301-791-6266, 1-800-538-9967 or visit the Hagerstown Suns Web site at
