Towpath conditions improve

July 03, 2003

Conditions on the Chesapeake & Ohio Canal National Historical Park towpath have improved during the last week due to continuous good weather, according to a release.

McCoy's Ferry Campground, located at mile 110.4 of the C&O Canal near Clear Spring is open again to the public with the exception of some sites that remain closed due to reseeding, mulching and erosion.

The stretch between mileposts 88 and 89, which encompasses the area between McMahon's Mill and Lock 41 of the towpath, has also been opened to the public again.

In general, conditions on the towpath are satisfactory, but some areas remain wet and muddy, the release said.
