Mayetta M. Shives

FALLING WATERS, W.Va. - Mayetta Mann Shives, 75, of Falling Waters, and formerly of Hancock, died Sunday, June 29, 2003, at Washington County Hospital.

Born Sept. 26, 1927, in Hancock, she was the daughter of the late Jesse and Mary Julia Shoemaker Mann.

Her husband, John Phillip Shives, died Feb. 8, 1983.

She was a homemaker.

She attended Gateway Ministries in Williamsport.

She is survived by two daughters, Janice M. Smith of Hagerstown, and Julia V. Walter of Falling Waters; two sisters, Leona McCusker of Martinsburg, W.Va., and Anna S. Gipe of Williamsport; three grandchildren, and nieces, nephews and cousins.

Graveside services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Cedar Lawn Memorial Park, Hagerstown. Pastor Shane Stauffer will officiate.

The family will receive friends Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Grove Funeral Home, Hancock, which will be open after 2 p.m.

M. Elaine McLaughlin

FORT LOUDON, Pa. - M. Elaine McLaughlin, 71, formerly of 13148 Main St., Fort Loudon, died Monday, June 30, 2003, at the home of her daughter, Michelle E. Newman, 811 Park St., Waynesboro, Pa., with whom she resided.

Born April 2, 1932, in Fort Loudon, she was the daughter of the late Andrew W. and Ethel Rosenberry Jones.

Her husband, Francis L. "Bunk" McLaughlin, died Feb. 18, 2001.

She was a 1950 graduate of Lemasters (Pa.) High School.

She was employed as a teachers' aide at James Buchanan Middle School from 1974 until 1986.

She was a member of Otterbein United Brethren Church of Waynesboro.

She was a member of Clarence Armstrong VFW Post 6241 Ladies Auxiliary of Mercersburg, Pa., and a former member of Women of the Mountain of Fort Loudon.

In addition to her daughter, she is survived by one son, Darrell C. McLaughlin of Chambersburg; one sister, E. Louise Bivens of Fort Loudon, and three grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held Thursday at 11:30 a.m. at Otterbein United Brethren Church. The Rev. Michael V. Newman will officiate. Private burial will be in Stenger Hill Cemetery, Fort Loudon.

Visitation will be Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Lininger-Fries Funeral Home, Mercersburg.

Robert M. Hoffman Jr.

LEITERSBURG - Robert Michael "Bobby" Hoffman Jr., 69, of 14401 Battletown Road, Leitersburg, Md., and formerly of Frederick, Md., died Sunday, June 29, 2003, at Washington County Hospital in Hagerstown.

Born Oct. 13, 1933, in Myersville, Md., he was a son of the late Robert Michael Hoffman Sr. and Gertrude Irene Cline Hoffman.

He had been employed for 15 years with Morgan & Keller Construction in Myersville, and retired in 1997 from Rotorex in Walkersville, Md.

He was a member of Beaver Creek Christian Church.

He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Phyllis Ann Smith Hoffman; three daughters, Rose Summerville and husband, Buck of Leitersburg, Roxann Long and husband, Jeff of Williamsport, Md., and Heather Hoffman of Leitersburg; one son, Robert David Hoffman and wife, Melissa of Walkersville; two sisters, Joann Mentzer of Clear Spring, Md., and Joyce Netz of Hagerstown; two brothers, Richard Hoffman of Hagers-town, and David Hoffman of Hedgesville, W.Va.; six grandchildren, John Summerville Jr., Christopher Hoffman, Jessica Summerville, Ryan Long, Sara Long and Shelby Hoffman; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Janet Hoffman.

A memorial service will be held Thursday, July 3, 2003, at 1 p.m. at Bast Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike, Boonsboro. The Rev. Wendell McClellan will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1037 Haven Road, Hagerstown, MD 21742.

Allen H. Martin

Allen H. Martin, 83, of 13628 Paradise Road, Hagerstown, died Monday, June 30, 2003, at his home.

Born March 23, 1920, in Washington County, he was the son of the late Eli H. and Susan Hege Martin.

His first wife, Cora Horst Martin, died Sept. 2, 1985.

He was last employed as a salesman for dairy and farm equipment.

He was a member of Paradise Mennonite Church near Hagerstown.

He is survived by his wife, Louise F. Eby Martin, whom he married March 12, 1986; three daughters, Miriam L. Hostetter of Hagerstown, Elaine G. Martin of Greencastle, Pa., and Ethel M. Miller of Waynesboro, Pa.; two sons, Carlton R. Martin and Donald E. Martin, both of Hagerstown; four sisters, Rhoda Eby of Clear Spring, Susan Martin of Smithsburg, and Catherine Weber and Mary Coss, both of Hagerstown; three brothers, Hege Martin of Clear Spring, and Eli W. Martin and Henry Martin, both of Hagerstown; 29 grandchildren and 46 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Alice Eby; one brother, Noah Martin; and one granddaughter.
